I had a wonderful stay at this hostel and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Machiko, the owner, is such a kind, warm, and lovely person. I arrived later than expected, but she patiently waited for me to arrive, which I really appreciated after a long day of travelling. The location is incredibly peaceful and quiet. It was one of the best nights of sleep I had during my trip to Japan, and it was the perfect place to relax and unwind. I only stayed for one night, but Machiko went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. The next morning, she even prepared breakfast for me, even though it wasn't included in my booking. She also gave me advice on the Mt. Fuji area and shared helpful advice on how to get around, which made my visit much easier. I don't usually write reviews, but this stay truly deserved one. I stayed here in June, and although I'm only getting around to leaving this review now, I wanted to say thank you for such a wonderful experience. If I'm ever back in the area, I would definitely stay here again.

After spending 18 days in various hostels around Japan, and hundreds of days around the world, this one had been my absolute favorite. The best sleep I have gotten on my trip and the breakfast was an amazing treat. Walking distance to most sights.

Wonderful little hostel with extremely friendly staff. Great location. 15 minute walk from train station. 25 minute to walk from hostel to the top of Chureito Pagoda. Great value. Would stay here again for sure

Really good guesthouse. Just over a year old it's in great condition. Good bathrooms, good bunks and wonderful host. Took me to japanese drumming practice and I got to play with the group! Plenty of restaurants in the area if you want to eat out but if you give the host a couple of days warning you may be able to cook and eat Japanese food with her. About 10 min walk to Gekkoji station. Note: The location of the hostel on the Hotels.com map was not the actual location. Make sure you check the location in a mapping program (e.g. google maps).

I booked this hostel at the last minute, because I wanted to add an extra night to my winter vacation trip. The first couple nights I had stayed at a slightly more expensive hotel near Kawaguchiko Station, just a few stops away on the Fujikyuko Line. Compared to that hotel, Hostel Mt. Fuji actually had better wi-fi service, and a stronger shower. It was so refreshing to be able to jump in the shower after a day of hiking and not have to deal with low water pressure. I was also extremely lucky in that I was the only guest in the hostel that night. Even though I had only paid 3,000 yen for one bunk in a 9-bed dormitory, I ended up having the place all to myself. So the privacy was also a plus. This is a small hostel, just recently opened, with I think only one or two dormitories. From the road, it almost looks like a house. But everything in the building seemed new and clean. The owner, Machiko, spoke English well, and was extremely helpful during my stay. When I made my last-minute booking, I did not realize the hostel was so close to Chureito Pagoda, with its famous view of Mount Fuji. But Machiko-san gave me a map and directions for how to get there. (It's only about a 15-minute walk.) In the morning, she offered me coffee, and as a "winter service," provided me with bread and a boiled egg for breakfast. Overall, my experience at Hostel Mt. Fuji, while highly subjective, was very good, and I would certainly consider staying there again.
