Saigon Opera House, also called the Municipal Theatre, is famous for its beautiful French-style architecture and exciting cultural performances. Back in 2012, it was even recognized as a national treasure. This building is located right in the center of Ho Chi Minh City, connecting the metro station to the roundabout near Ben Thanh market. When you look at it from far away, it kinda looks like a grand city gate that's welcoming you. Inside, there's a lovely oval auditorium with 468 seats, made to make every performance sound and look awesome. And guess what? It's completely soundproof, so you won't hear any noise from outside while you're enjoying the show. You can catch all sorts of cultural performances at the Saigon Opera House, like bamboo cirque shows, contemporary dance, orchestra concerts, and even government events. So, if you're planning a trip to Ho Chi Minh City, you don't want to miss checking out this special place and the nearby Hanoi Opera House!

The local red-dressed employees were all sitting. It was raining and I could hardly find anyone to exchange tickets in the crowd. I was a little unhappy.

We had a great experience on our Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong River tour! Everything was well-organized and seamless, from pick-up to drop-off. Our guide, Vinh, was excellent. His English was great, he was very accommodating, and he made sure all the guests were comfortable and taken care of throughout the day. He shared a lot of interesting information and patiently answered everyone’s questions. The tour itself was packed with activities but didn’t feel rushed. Highly recommended, especially if you get Vinh as your guide!

If you want to explore Saigon, double decker bus city tour is one of the best option. During our ride the weather is good, we go there at 4:00 pm even though it was day time still I love it. It was our first time to ride the city tour bus. so we are amazed because we see the beauty of Saigon. Best time to ride is 6:30pm because you will see the city lights.

Things to do in the Saigon Opera House

Admire French Colonial Architecture

Take a look inside the Saigon Opera House, built back in 1898 by French architect Eugene Ferret. The flamboyant style and fancy design are influenced by the French Third Republic.

Spread over 3,200 square meters, the Opera House catches your eye with its stunning front, showing off three big doors and beautiful stone statues that look like the Greek Caryatids of Erechtheion. Its resemblance to the Petit Palais of France adds an extra layer of charm and grandeur.

Watch Cultural Shows

At Saigon Opera House, get the chance to see AO Show or The Mist Show! Both shows give an incredible blend of theatrical art, contemporary dance, traditional Vietnamese music, acrobatics, and bamboo circus acts. The AO Show name is inspired by the sounds of a village ("A") and a city ("O"), symbolizing the rural-urban contrast in Vietnamese life.

The Mist Show also gives you a unique look into the daily lives of hardworking Vietnamese people. It pays tribute to the farmers' dedication and challenges in cultivating rice in humble, muddy fields. Watch as the talented cast presents neoclassical and modern dances showcasing a farmer's day from sunrise to sunset.

Enjoy Circus Performances

Head to the Saigon Opera House to see the exciting Teh Dar Show. This Vietnamese circus performance reveals stories of highlanders through traditional red and black costumes. Male actors sport loincloths, while female actresses wear skirts with natural designs, making it a visually captivating experience for everyone.
