It may be an island-state off coast, but Tasmania can be accessed from the mainland. There are two main options to start your Tasmania travel: plane or boat.
Tassie's two major cities, Hobart and Launceston, have direct flights from major mainland cities: Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. The shortest flight from Melbourne takes around 45 minutes; 90 minutes from Sydney, while the fastest direct flight from Brisbane takes approximately two and a half hours.
Planning to bring your car to Tasmania so you can self-drive while you're here? You can hit the seas via The Spirit of Tasmania's car and passenger ferry from Melbourne. Travelling to Tasmania via ferry takes between nine and 11 hours, so better plan your itinerary ahead if you're travelling by boat.

What is the best month to travel to Tasmania?

The peak months to travel to Tasmania are during the summer months (December to February). Tassie weather during this season is warm and dry and at its most comfortable, so you can head to the wilderness and enjoy most of its outdoor activities, such as hiking and white-water rafting.
If you prefer to visit good ol' Tassie without the crowds, we recommend you visit from October to November and March to April when there is less foot traffic on the island and rates are noticeably cheaper than the peak months.

How many days do I need to visit Tasmania?

We highly suggest you travel to Tasmania and stay there for at least two weeks to explore the whole island and experience all kinds of outdoor fun it has in store for its guests.
