The tour guide will receive you in the hotel lobby on time. It was the first time in my life to see salmon migratory, which was really eye-opening. The tour guide first took us to the fish market to see the salmon unloading situation, and then went to the river where the salmon migrated to give a detailed introduction. This project is worth recommending.
I got to know the ecology of salmon and the environment and development of the fish industry in Shiretoko Peninsula. I also witnessed with my own eyes the large-scale return of salmon to spawn.
Good to know
- This tour requires a minimum of two participants to operate.
- Salmon and trout are highly sensitive during spawning. Please follow the guide’s instructions carefully regarding how to approach the river and maintain appropriate distances.
- The tour runs in all weather conditions. Please bring your own rain gear and waterproof boots, as rentals are not available.
- Tours may be canceled or shortened in case of severe weather.
- Feeding wild animals is strictly prohibited and subject to penalties under the Natural Parks Law.
- Please refrain from drinking alcohol before the tour, and avoid alcohol consumption or smoking during the experience.
- Pregnant guests cannot join this tour.
- Mobile phone use is not permitted during the walk to maintain a quiet and respectful environment.
- Hotel pick-up is available for guests staying in the Utoro area, approximately 10–15 minutes before the tour starts. Pick-ups are managed by the Shiretoko Naturalist's Association.
