I booked this quite last minute, so I wasn’t expecting much — but it turned out to be such a lovely experience. I did the full class, including ohigashi and nerikeri (Japanese sweets) making, and it was honestly worth every minute. I was the only participant at first, so it started as a private session, then a few others joined for the tea ceremony. The instructor was so kind, patient and clearly passionate about the craft. I learned how to properly whisk matcha, the right water temperature, and even how to tell if a matcha bowl is handmade! It’s such a calm, cultural activity — perfect for a rainy day in Kyoto or if you’re travelling with kids. I’d absolutely recommend this for first-timers in Japan.

We had such a wonderful and relaxing experience at the culinary school in Kyoto. We learned how to make our own Nerikiri sweets with the guidance of a true professional who explained every step clearly and made the class enjoyable for everyone. The sweets were not only beautiful but also delicious, and afterwards we enjoyed them during a traditional matcha ceremony. We were taught the cultural and historical background of matcha, along with the proper procedures and etiquette, which made the experience even more meaningful. Highly recommend this class if you are looking for a peaceful, cultural, and hands-on experience in Kyoto!

A magnificent experience! I really enjoyed this activity, both the tea ceremony and making the Neri-Kiri. Everything was very well explained, and the instructor was incredible: gentle, patient, and passionate. Even though I don't remember her name, I thank her very much for this unique moment. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience a beautiful traditional Japanese experience in Kyoto!

The instructor was so kind, and the difficulty of the experience wasn't too hard, so it was great to follow along and fun!! It felt even more special because these are things that are hard to experience otherwise. I usually can't eat matcha because it's too bitter, but it went so well with the traditional snacks. I definitely recommend it at least once! 👍🏻

The teacher was very friendly and communicated well with us foreign tourists in English. I participated in three full workshops, which at two hours felt a bit too long. I think the matcha and wasanbon workshops would have been sufficient. I visited in the summer, and the air conditioning was a bit weak.

Loved the class. We first made 2 sweets which involved mixing colors, making shapes. It was fun. The instructor was speaking in 2 languages - so it was easy to understand and follow. We then moved to the matcha ceremony where the instructor explained all about it. How the powder is made, how to make the tea, how to be the host and how to drink it. It was very informative. Great experience overall!

It was very well explained. It wasn't a traditional tea ceremony but it helps you understand how the ceremony works and what is the meaning of the process. Very recommended.
