If you’re visiting the Margaret River region, Lake Cave is an absolute must-see. Tucked away beneath towering karri trees, this cave offers one of the most surreal underground experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment we descended the 350 stairs into what’s called the “sunken forest,” it felt like stepping into another world. The guided tour was about an hour long and incredibly informative. Our guide was passionate and engaging, explaining how the cave was formed over millions of years and pointing out fascinating features like the “Suspended Table”—a massive calcite formation that appears to float just above the mirror-still lake. That lake, by the way, is mesmerizing. It reflects the stalactites and rock formations above so perfectly that it’s almost disorienting. You truly feel like you’re in a natural cathedral of crystal and silence.
The guide was very engaging; had a good understanding about the caves in the MR region as a whole and why Lake Cave is so unique for its “table” - something you need to see for yourself which is not available anywhere else. Take note tripods are not allowed inside the cave to protect the delicate stalagmites & stalactites. I appreciate Cave Road (right above the caves) more than ever now :)
Huge and active cave. Can really see the formation of straws, stalagmites and stalactites. There is a lake inside the cave, and you can see the beautiful reflection. Not so suitable for elderly as there are a lot of stairs.
Tom was our guide on the tour. He was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. He was extremely good with names and kids. He made sure no one got left behind and re-explained to the tourists at the back once they got closer to the exhibits. Good job again, Tom! And all the best with the stairs haha!
This is a truly stunning attraction, showcasing the wonders of nature and its incredible craftsmanship. It's a highly recommended spot, and travelers visiting the Margaret River region absolutely shouldn't miss it!
Inside the Lake Cave, there are beautiful crystal formations, and the professional tour guides are very friendly and explain everything in great detail. The most interesting part is the naturally formed limestone rocks that coincidentally resemble Australia's iconic kangaroo and emu. God certainly has a sense of humor – it's amazing that these are both unique to Australia!
Amazing view in the cave- the lake , shawls, straws and 'suspended table '. Everything is so close to us while walking in the cave. One of the most beautiful cave I had ever seen.
i found the outside of the cave is already gorgeuous. there are a lot of landscapes we can see. When entering into the cave, there are so many different kinds of stalactites, espcecially the amazing “suspended table”. it is so true the guide said Lake cave may be a samll one, but it must be the most beautiful one. It is really worth seeing.
The tour was both educational and enjoyable. Our guide was very knowledgeable and pointed out all the highlights of the cave, including the stunning stalactites and stalagmites, as well as unique formations like the Chinese Dragon and the Suspended Table. The tour was informative but unhurried, giving us plenty of time to appreciate the cave’s beauty. After the tour, we spent some extra time exploring the lovely gift shop, which had a range of unique and interesting merchandise. Overall, a highly recommended experience!
very unique place of interest. glad that the weather was good when we on tour. do note the number of stairs to go down & return up was no joke. it was worth the effort to go down and got to witness the fabulous view. recommended to join.
