What to expect
Located in the Kabukicho district of Shinjuku, Samurai Museum is a must-see tourist spot in Japan where you will be amazed by its wide collection. It displays various kinds of authentic artifacts such as Samurai armor, helmets, and weapons. Have a better understanding of the history and cultural significance the Samurai have in the Japanese culture during your visit to the museum. The museum offers an English guided tour that runs frequently for you to learn rich Samurai history at a deeper level. Many interesting facts about Samurai are covered in this tour. Also, it has a photo booth where you are allowed to take pictures wearing Samurai outfits or kimonos. Also, the museum offers a 15-20 minutes special sword show every day, for you to watch two trained actors doing a sword fight performance. The Museum shop is also worth visiting to buy cool gifts such as Katana.

Visited here on February 2020. Guided tour starts at 11:00 so be there a bit early. All guides are fluent in English and so no problem when you ask questions about the exhibits. According to the museum, all exhibits are original and not replicas. They teach you about the way of the samurais back then when civil war was on for hundreds of years. There are also some exhibits when photography is not allowed, but as for the rest, just shoot away. The best stuff here are the armors. They have towering helmet ornaments, so to make them look taller and intimidating (Japanese men are smaller then). At the end of the tour, you can try on some of their costumes (either Samurai armor, or a stylish kimono) for free for photography purposes. There also hold free cultural shows at 14:00 but unfortunately I wasn't able to attend due to time issues. Overall, it is a must to be here especially for people who are enthusiasts. You can cover everything in here in maximum of 2 hours.
It seems to be this is one of the must do attractions in Tokyo. The museum itself is not big but it contains very rare original items that played key roles in Japanese history. You get to learn a lot of interesting facts and tour guide, Miko, she was very intertanibg.
Plenty to do in the surrounding neighbourhood so if you just miss a tour time then you don't have to hang around in the waiting room. Museum itself is fun with plenty of interesting exhibits and information. There is a samurai show at the end of the tour and can take photos with the actors as well as put on some armour if it's not too busy.
A stroll along Shinjuku lead us into this gem in the midst of bustling city! Taisei san (our eloquent English guide) really did a great job in explaining the broad history of Samurai and the necessary details in each of the collectibles in display. Great job!
This museum is very informative when it comes to history of Samurai. Their collection was remarkable and you can try their costumes - Japanese princess or Samurai warrior. We really had a great time!

Staff were very friendly. They speak english. We enjoyed the samurai show and liked the kimono/samurai costume experience. The tour was informative about the Edo (samurai) period. You'll know a thing or two about their history. It was a good museum tour. I highly recommend it. You should watch the show especially.
