Guide

  • Longmen Ancient Town, located on the south bank of Fuchun River, is a large settlement of Sun Quan's descendants. It is not only a scenic spot but also a relatively primitive living area, without rows of shops, but inhabited by simple local people, and still preserves many well-preserved ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The films "The Barber" and "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains" were filmed here.
  • The ancient town is roughly divided into 10 parts, including Tracing the Origin of the Ancient Town, Old Street Nostalgia, Riverside Dwellings, Longmen Ancient Town - Hundred Steps Remains, Inkstone Pond Night Moon, and Sun's Grand Ancestral Hall. The town is not large and can generally be explored in about two hours.
  • Tickets are required to enter the ancient town. The main ticket includes all attractions within the town that require ticket checking, which are also some of the best ancient buildings in the ancient town, including not only residences but also ancestral halls, large courtyards, opera stages, archways, and pagodas, offering a complete range of types. The more famous ones are the Hundred Steps Hall in Hundred Steps Remains and the Sun's Ancestral Hall in Sun's Grand Ancestral Hall. The ancient town can be entered all day. After ticket sales hours, no ticket is needed, but the attractions within the town cannot be visited.
  • However, strolling around the ancient town at leisure also feels good. Photos taken in the deep ancient alleys have a literary flair, and locals can often be seen leisurely drinking tea, playing cards, and chatting on the streets. Therefore, many tourists are even more interested in experiencing the local customs than in seeing the buildings themselves.
  • Upon alighting at Longmen, you can see the archway of the ancient town. After entering the ancient town, you can see an old street paved with cobblestones, which is where the ancient town's restaurants and small shops are concentrated. The most charming part of the ancient town is strolling along Longmen Stream, watching the ancient town life of the riverside families. The essence of ancient architecture can be found near Inkstone Pond, where a circle of ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties surrounds a lush green pond, offering pleasant scenery. Therefore, the route is to walk along the old street to Longmen Stream, then follow the stream back to Inkstone Pond, and finally head north back to the old street. This way, it's less likely to get lost, and you can visit the main attractions of the ancient town.
  • When visiting Longmen Ancient Town, people usually do not stay overnight in the scenic area, but they almost certainly try Sun Quan's gluten here. Besides meat, the gluten also contains dried bamboo shoots, chives, carrots, etc. It is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, tastes very good, and costs only a few yuan each, making it very affordable. It is also worth mentioning that Longmen Mountain, south of the town, is a good place for hiking with beautiful scenery. It is over a thousand meters above sea level, and reaching the summit takes about 4-5 hours. The steps are quite steep and physically demanding, so you can bring some dry food.
