Guide

The Guanlin Temple was built in the 24th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1596) on the original site of the Han Dynasty Guan Temple, and was expanded during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, basically forming its current scale. The architectural specifications of Guanlin Temple are built according to traditional palaces. After visitors enter the main gate of Guanlin, they walk along the central axis to visit, and can successively see the main gate, Yimen (ceremonial gate), Yongdao (covered walkway), Baidian (worship hall), Dadian (main hall), Erudian (second hall), Sanudian (third hall), and other parts of the ancestral temple. Behind the ancestral temple is the tomb where Guan Yu's head is buried. The two plaques above the Yimen and Erudian, "Wei Yang Liu He" (Power Spreading Across the Six Directions) and "Guang Zhao Ri Yue" (Radiance Illuminating the Sun and Moon), were inscribed by Empress Dowager Cixi and Emperor Guangxu, respectively.
