Chameleon Stargazing Guided Tour in Lake Tekapo

we saw the Milky Way and learned a lot about stars. I recommend doing this towards to start of your trip- especially if the moon is not full. that way, you can keep spotting stars for the rest of the trip.

The tour guide thoughtfully prepared hot chocolate with marshmallows and blankets for us, so we could lie on the grassland and watch the Southern Hemisphere's starry sky. They explained the names of each star and how to find the South Celestial Pole. It was a night full of knowledge and romance ☺️. They also gave us reusable cocoa cups, and every time I see that cup, I remember the starry sky that night ☺️☺️.

Estella, our guide, was lovely and was very knowledgeable. Coral was our other guide who helped us with taking cool photos and provided hot chocolates. It was a full moon night so we couldn’t see the Milky Way as we wanted but it was still beautiful regardless. We were given blankets to keep warm, hot chocolate and UNLIMITED marshmallows at the fire pit during the last 15 mins. They had two telescopes and we got enough time to observe the stars, the moon and also Venus which was visible. Would definitely recommend!

LOVE this tour!!! George (guide) was very professional, experienced and good at story telling. Very lucky to have clean sky for stargazing and it’s so nice that the tour provided hot chocolate, blanket and marshmallow! 100% recommended!!

It was great! Since I don't drive, I paid extra for them to arrange a shuttle for me, because the stargazing spot was a bit far. When we arrived, it really looked like the Milky Way! And they had two very professional telescopes, so we could see many different stars and learned a lot about them. We also had hot chocolate, and at the end, there was a marshmallow roasting session. They even took photos for us and sent them to us afterward.

I chose the Chinese tour, and the introduction was very detailed. The starry sky was also very clear. Finally, there was hot cocoa with marshmallows. It was a very good experience.

A very good experience! The sky is very clear, beautiful and shocking! With the interesting explanation in Mandarin, the whole activity becomes unforgettable. The activities are 1. Lie down and see with the naked eye 2. See with instruments 3. Photo time 4. Burn marshmallows . But it’s really cold, so remember to wear more clothes!!! Fortunately, there was a big blanket, otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to endure it for so long. The photos the official took with us were beautiful, including the aurora. It would be better to drive to the meeting point by yourself. It will be very dark when walking.

I had an incredible experience on a stargazing tour with Siu Fung from Malaysia. Her passion and knowledge about the night sky were truly impressive. The location was easy to find, offering stunning views of the Milky Way. Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Lake Tekapo.

The staff explained everything very, very thoroughly, and the stargazing telescope provided very clear views. However, I hope that next time, you can politely ask visitors to keep their voices down a bit. Some people in the Mandarin session were really too loud and completely drowned out the staff's explanations of the knowledge. 🙂 For the second half, I only heard noisy conversations from the visitors and people constantly cutting in line. I hope that next time you can gently persuade visitors not to be so out of control. Oh, and also, please remember to seal the hot chocolate lids tightly; mine wasn't sealed properly, so my scarf is covered in delicious hot chocolate. 🥲
