This is an excellent hotel for families. Friendly staff, convenient location next to Ueno station. You'll get the basics, and convenient stores are nearby for any food and amenities the hotel doesn't provide.

GoodStayed with kids
It was okay, not sure we would stay again. There was frosted glass on all the windows so literally no views, no natural light. All of the rooms are outside entrances, like a motel, no indoor corridors like a hotel has. One elevator so you might be waiting at peak times unless you want to take the stairs. Did not love the location, but dealt with it since it was only one night. Closest konbini (7/11, family mart) was a 3-5 minute walk each way. About a 12-15 minute walk to the Skyliner which is main reason we chose this location.

The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. The service was excellent. The price was a little high. However, the amenities and location were excellent. Great kitchen. Maybe some kitchen towels and pans would be helpful for cooking. The Pokémon theme was well worth coming for. The beds were comfy and the huge, snuggly Snorlax plush made the stay a truly memorable experience.

FantasticStayed with kids
Phenomenal place and people. Great location. Laundry on site. For a jet-lagged family from the states, we literally have no complaints - it was everything we were hoping for. Ueno is a *great* area to stay in, Mimaru makes it entirely too easy. Bunk beds being slightly separated from the other beds gave kids some privacy - charging plugs by each bunk bed was a really nice touch too. No complaints. Exceptional.

FantasticStayed with family
We stayed at Mimaru Tokyo Ueno East for 9 nights in April and had a great experience.
We booked the connecting Japanese apartment, which consists of two separate units joined by an internal door—perfect for families or groups. One unit had four single beds, while the other had two single beds plus space for additional futon beds on tatami mats. Each unit included its own toilet, a spacious bathroom with both a shower and bathtub, and a kitchenette equipped with a sink, fridge, and range.
The hotel also offers a clean, convenient laundromat on the main floor, with more advanced laundry facilities just a five-minute walk away.
The location is excellent—Ueno Station is about five minutes away, providing easy access to multiple metro and rail lines. There are also several 24-hour convenience stores (“combini”) nearby. Ameyoko Market, with its wide variety of restaurants and shops, is about a 10-minute walk.
The reception staff were outstanding—multilingual, friendly, and always eager to help. I especially remember Nadya and Mahdi, who were a pleasure to interact with.
As in much of Tokyo, there can be some street noise in the evenings from passing cars, so keeping the double windows closed is a good idea if you prefer quiet.
Overall, I highly recommend this hotel and would happily stay here again on my next trip to Tokyo.
