Things to do in Toyako

Start with a walk along the Lake Toya promenade, then take a Lake Toya sightseeing cruise to view Nakajima Island and the surrounding caldera scenery. Ride the Usuzan Ropeway from Showa Shinzan to observatories overlooking Lake Toya, Mount Usu, and the volcanic landscape shaped by past eruptions. Visit the Toyako Visitor Center and Volcano Science Museum to understand the area’s geology before exploring the lakeside sculpture park. In the evening, stay in Toyako Onsen for hot spring baths and, in season, the Lake Toya long-run fireworks display. Outdoor travelers can cycle around the lake, book canoeing experiences, or drive to Silo Observatory for classic panoramic photos. Toyako also pairs well with Noboribetsu Onsen, Muroran, and Niseko on a multi-day Hokkaido itinerary.
