The Ninh Binh Trang An tour, showcasing the best natural scenery near Hanoi, is a healing experience where you ride a small boat through caves amidst towering limestone cliffs. It's usually recommended as a day trip, often combined with Hoa Lu and Hang Mua Peak. You'll spend 2-3 hours on a boat, rowed by a boatman, exploring caves and temples, surrounded by a fantastic landscape that truly earns its nickname, 'Ha Long Bay on Land.' There are three different Trang An boat tour routes, with the routes that pass through more caves (usually routes 2 or 3) being the most popular. It's a good idea to give a tip (around $2-$4) to your boatman as a token of appreciation. I participated in the tour on March 14, 2026, and the weather was cool and perfect. our tour was great! we were upgraded to a private tour and our tour guide Kane is very accommodating. he explains very well the history of different places where we went and took a lot of great photos! he is very knowledgeable and assisted us in all our needs. our tour guide Mae was very good, we went to many local houses on the village and learned about the culture of the place. the walking was fun and it ended with a good foot bath with one drink! definitely worth it.

We spent our morning with Dung who started the tour by offering us a coffee and information, then we started walking through the black market as she shared stories and anecdotes about the place, the city etc during the Resistance War years. We were 7 participants in the group which was a good size as the alleys were narrow and we were aware of the effort the organisers had to make to bring us through the neighbourhood whose inhabitants could choose to be unfriendly. We took a taxi to the street that was heavily bombed and ended the tour with a drink by the Southern Railway track. This allowed us to understand Hanoi and its inhabitants a bit more and to admire their resilience and courage. Dung is young, keen to learn and passionate about her work. We were glad we joined the tour.
