Yesterday
We came unprepared without raincoats and it was raining almost 80% of the time during those days. Still, the experience and memories from this trip were wonderful. It was tiring, but truly unforgettable. The falls were beautiful, and the old streets felt alive. I had hoped to see Jiufen at night, but even in daylight some lanterns and lights were already on, so we still got to enjoy the charm of the place. Hopefully next time the weather will be clearer so we can explore more of the shops and souvenirs. Special thanks to our tour guide, Ms. Ruby, who made sure we saw the highlights, tried the local food, and even helped us whenever we felt confused especially with the language barrier. Overall, it was a wonderful trip.

This was a self-guided tour, so there was no tour guide, but overall it was a great experience! The itinerary was clear and easy to follow, and each stop was enjoyable. Everything was organized well, making it convenient to explore with plenty of time each place. I would definitely recommend this tour my family and friends.

Jeff works hard and made sure we accomplish all activities in a timely manner. This tour includes admission fees into Yehliu and a DIY pineapple cake making class which other tours don’t included. It was a long day but it was fun.

Barbie was very kind and accommodating. It was mostly Japanese tourists in our group, but she was able to communicate with all of us in EN/JP at the same time, which was super cool. She also let us go on our own around the town with the help of the map she made. Besides tasting the unique Jiufen snacks, we got ourselves some ginger tea and special custom surname calligraphy souvenirs. Please take note of how crowded the place can be, but adjust yourselves accordingly and let it not ruin your trip. Thank you for the tour, Barbie! My husband and I enjoyed the entire visit to a damp misty Jiufen.

Our guide was Roben. We started at Taipei Main Station and took the bus for an hour to Shifen Waterfall and then Shifen town were many people were doing the sky lanterns. There were many food stalls here with lots of nice things to try like small sausage in big sausage, rice stuffed in chicken, and peanut ice cream rolls. We took the train to Houtang Cat Village. We had 90 minutes here which was maybe 30 minutes too long as it wasn’t a big place. Finally, we went to Jiufen which also had lots of food places and souvenir shops. I went to the teahouse first and then wandered through the streets. We were dropped off back at the main station at 5pm. Roben gave some recommendations for each place and was very pleasant.

this tour was worth every penny. depending on what time you book your tour, they will cater it to fit your day. We recommend booking the private tour because you’re able to also customize it how you want and their private tours are in English. Stephen was our tour guide. he was patient when we were slower and had a lot of knowledge that he shared with us about each site. He also had great recommendations and never let us forget any of our items. We recommend this tour for anyone who wants to see the northern part of Taiwan, but doesn’t want to be stressed with how to get there and what to do.
