Fantastic 5.0
Booked this Chichen Itza tour from Cancun and had a great experience overall. Pickup was at 5:15 AM, and the van was comfortable enough to nap during the 2-hr drive. One of the highlights was arriving early at Chichen Itza before the crowds. Our guide, Kevin, was knowledgeable and shared fascinating insights about Mayan history, while our driver, Razel, made the journey smooth and comfortable. After Chichen Itza, we stopped at a cenote for swimming, lunch, and tequila tasting. The cenote and tequila tasting were enjoyable, but the buffet lunch was disappointing and below average. The final stop was Valladolid, a charming town and a nice addition to the itinerary. We returned to our hotel around 6:00 PM. It’s a full 12-hr day, but well worth it for anyone wanting to learn about Mayan civilization and visit one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Great 4.0
There was an issue with the Klook listing. It stated that a buffet lunch was included, but after I booked the tickets, the details showed that the buffet lunch was not included in the price. In the end, we had to pay extra for the buffet lunch on the day of the tour, but the food provided was absolutely not worth the price the restaurant charged. It was very disappointing. The tour guide had a very strong English accent. My husband, who has lived in the United States for nearly 30 years, could only understand about half of what he said. We often couldn't tell if he was speaking English or Spanish, though we could definitely feel the guide's dedication. We departed from downtown Cancun, and it was a truly packed itinerary. We had to be at the meeting point at 4:45 AM and didn't return until around 8:30 PM. It was an exhausting day. Because Chichen Itza was unexpectedly closed that day, the guide took us to Ek Balam instead. We didn't realize we were running out of water and ended up suffering from heatstroke after about half an hour without rehydrating. The weather that day was incredibly hot, which meant we didn't have the energy to properly explore Ek Balam. All we wanted was to get back to the entrance as quickly as possible to buy water. The planning by the staff at Ek Balam wasn't great; many ruins didn't have English explanations, and there was no place to buy water inside the site, only at the entrance and the parking lot. We hadn't planned on actually swimming in the Chichikan cenote, but we were surprised that the staff even required us to pay for a life vest and locker just to dip our feet in the water. Otherwise, we weren't allowed to enter at all and could only view the cenote from the observation deck. Since the water quality inside wasn't very clean, we decided not to go in after all.

Fantastic 5.0
Visiting the archaeological site of Tulum, Cobá, and finishing with the indoor cenote where we could swim in the cave was incredible. It's truly an experience not to be missed. I also want to thank Kevin, our guide, who was super kind and very funny. I really enjoyed spending the day with him and the group. Thanks also to our driver José, who transported us all day. 💙🇲🇽

What to know before visiting Cancún

Highlights: what most visitors book and when

Cancún's most-booked activities are Tours, followed by Water activities and Attraction passes, and demand peaks in February with a busy spell through January and April before dipping in late summer and September. Museums and Zoos & aquariums appear as lower-cost options, while attraction passes show the biggest range of prices across the year.

Best picks for families, couples and solo travellers

Families often gravitate to Water activities and Zoos & aquariums for easy shared fun and to Attraction passes when they want flexible sightseeing options. Couples tend to favour Tours and Attraction passes for curated experiences and planning ease. Solo travellers or small groups will find Tours and Water activities suit varied budgets and offer the most straightforward ways to join in.

What travellers should book ahead

Most travellers can be flexible in Cancún: typical bookings are made around five days out, so many activities can be picked up a day or two before you go, but the earliest planners still secure things roughly three weeks ahead. Booking ahead matters most in the peak months of February, when availability and higher demand make early reservations worthwhile.

Comparing categories: price and who they suit

Museums are the easiest, lowest-cost way to get started, making them the cheapest entry point for budget-minded visitors. Tours and Water activities sit in the mid-range and are great for travellers wanting guided or active options without a premium price tag. Attraction passes are the priciest on average and also offer the widest spread of prices, suiting travellers who want flexibility and a mix of entry-level to premium choices.
