Chiayi

While Chiayi is a lesser-known destination in Taiwan, this relaxed and humble town is the perfect escapade for adventurers longing for fulfilling nature trips. Recognized as the gateway to the famous Alishan, a mountain province filled with green slopes, and sacred trees, Chiayi has a number of temples, museums, and nature reserves waiting to be explored. Alishan is the most visited of them all, located just outside the city, and is renowned for its breath-taking mountains, forests, and its famous sunrise. Tourists may also choose to remain within the town and drop by the expansive Lantan Lake, Chiayi's main water source; Jade Mountain, a hiker's haven; Chiayi Tower, best witnessed in the evening; or Beigang Old Street, teeming with traditional shops for those craving for more culture.
