If you’ve got the budget, it's by far the easiest, most convenient option out of all modes of transportation. Of course, it’s the fastest since you’ll travel the entirety of 342 kilometres in just an hour and 27 minutes, to be precise!
Depending on when you need to be there, Japan Rail offers trips as early as 6 in the morning—meaning you’ll get all the way down to Nagoya Station from Tokyo Station even before 8 in the morning!
Alternatively, the last trips you can get with your train tickets (JR pass) go as late as 10 in the evening. For this convenience, you’ll pay an amount of 112.99 AUD. Not bad, as the Shinkansen, best known worldwide as the bullet train, is a Japan experience in itself with the marvellous views you’ll encounter along the way!

For train enthusiasts seeking an unhurried adventure, the scenic route to Nagoya unveils itself through local JR trains. Introducing the JR Tokaido Main Line, this route parallels the renowned Tōkaidō Shinkansen, trading speed for a more immersive experience.
With a slower ride, you can expect multiple stops and train changes along the way, but if you've got time to spare, this shouldn't be a problem. It may even be a plus since you'll be able to see more of the places between Tokyo and Nagoya.
While the Tōkaidō Shinkansen completes the Tokyo to Nagoya journey in a fraction of the time, the local train ride unfolds over a relaxed six hours, punctuated by around three transfers.
The Seishun 18 Train Ticket is an economical and flexible option for this journey, providing five days of unlimited travel on local trains and rapid JR trains. Plan your passage carefully, and let the rhythmic hum of trains weave the story of your exploration!
