Reviews
Very fun and smooth experience! We took the regular Jotetsu Bus (no reservation) to the Hoheikyo Onsen. Here’s an overview of the process and how each step felt: 1. Picked up the tickets on Dec.25 at the Sapporo TV Tower — Quick transaction and explanation on which station we should go to. 2. Took the 9:50AM 12H Bus at Makaino Station (~20 min away from Sapporo station) — The bus had frequent stops 3. Arrived directly at Hoheikyo Onsen @ 11:00 AM — Gave our tickets to the reception, and bought a towel for ¥260 then headed to the Locker/Changing Room 4. Before Onsen — The changing room has lockers that need a ¥100 coin. Placed our clothes in the locker and headed to the bathing area 5. Onsen Experience — There was only 1 outdoor women’s bath which could comfortably fit about 25 people. Great view and atmosphere. We stayed almost an hour because it snowed so much. 6. After — We ate lunch at the in-house restaurant, then boarded the 2:00PM bus and headed back to Makaino
Beautiful village. Definitely worth taking the trip. Get off the bus and explore the town of Jozankei - walk to the Suspension Bridge and through the park with the Buddha. Gorgeous scenery and beautiful onsen experience. Thoroughly recommended. Easy to use local transport to/from Sapporo.
Jozankei is amazingly beautiful, less tourist and transport is convenient with the bus and famous spots are within walking distance. Ticket changing at Tv Tower info counter is easy and quick, the employee explained the process in English, very kind and informative. Thanks for the experience! I truly enjoyed it.
Two days before departure, I went to the information center under the Sapporo TV Tower to exchange the paper pass. The staff could speak Chinese and explain how to use the bus pass and hot spring pass. For bus tickets, you use coins to scratch off the year, month and day you want to go to. I showed it to the driver when I got on and off the bus. The hot spring roll is a choice of three, and can be used at Yunohana, Manseikaku, or Toyohirakyo hot springs in Jozankei. The bus stop is at bus stops 26 and 27 on the right side of Tokyu Department Store, or you can come from Exit 23 of Shin-Sapporo Station. Walking down from Exit 23, there is a bus information board, toilets and chairs where you can rest. I got off at the Daiichi HOTEL parking lot stop in Jozankei, walked a few steps, had lunch (egg rice bowl) at Coke (with restrooms), and there are two paths from Futami Park (with restrooms) across the Futami Suspension Bridge , one of the viewing platforms is currently closed. Take another road to the parking lot behind Yunohana. Go out and take Route 230. The sidewalk on the left is very wide. Then walk towards Toyoheikyo Hot Spring. You will pass a small driver's rest stop (with a toilet) on the way. After soaking in the hot springs at Toyohei Gorge (bring your own towel or rent it locally, the open-air view is great), there is a bus stop diagonally opposite the entrance. I took the bus at 16:53 (the last bus was 19:53) and returned in front of the Sapporo TV Tower. Get off at Odori Park, 18:12 pm, it’s still dark, 2024.06.17.
Yeah it was a really fun experience to go to the hot springs town and it was a easy process to get to there. Wasn’t too busy on way there was more busy on way back
Remember to go to the first floor of TV TOWER to exchange your bus ticket one day in advance. The bus stop is Platform 26 next to Tokyu. Remember to check the bus number carefully before getting on. Only the bus with the last digit H goes to Hoheikyo and then to the hot spring facilities. You can use the exchange voucher to enter directly, but towels must be paid for, so it is recommended to bring your own large and small towels. Lockers/shoe cabinets require ¥100 coins (will be refunded) This time I soaked in Fengping Gorge, the open-air hot spring is first-class and there is It was snowing, and then I had delicious Indian curry. The only problem was that the regular bus had few services. In order to get a seat, it is recommended to queue up half an hour in advance.
Collect your tickets on the first floor of the Odori Park TV Tower. The staff can speak Chinese. The Jozankei bus timetable will be attached. You can find a convenient location to get on the bus (I got on the bus at Susukino Station and got off at Susukino on the return trip). There will be Jozankei patterns next to the buses, so you don’t have to worry about getting on the wrong bus. , the driver will look at the ticket (make sure you don’t miss the month and date). The distance is about an hour. Choose where you want to get off, and then you can take your time in Jozankei. Highly recommended for travelers who want to take a bath.
Although travel time was long, about 2 hours from our apartment but the Hoheikyo-Onsen was worth it. Open area was very scenic and not very crowded. managed to enjoy my bath for 2+ hours. They have a restaurant, relaxing waiting area and massage. can’t go wrong with snow falling while dipping in the hot water. Nice
Overall great transportation to Onsen. They will recommend that you go to Hoheikyo Onsen at the last stop. Kappa liner needs to be reserved through hotline that is only in Japanese, and info center says need to pay them toll fee to help call for booking. It was very confusing. Regardless I went to take the kappa liner from sapporo exit 23 without reservation and there were many seats - maybe because it is the summer.
Easy to use the voucher and claim the ticket in TV Tower. We chose the pick up and return point at Susukina Station. We reserved the seat and time, the bus arrived on time and the bus driver was very polite. We chose the Hoheikyo Onsan which was at the last stop. Really enjoying the hotspring with nice and nature scenary. Also the naan with curry wa very delicious.
