Cruise the Saigon River as you make your way to the famous Cu Chi Tunnels, a stronghold of the Viet Cong during the Vietnam War
Immerse yourself in Vietnamese history and culture on this eye-opening tour of the famous Cu Chi Tunnels. Avoid the traffic and cruise your way down the Saigon River by luxury speedboat, from which you'll be able to observe daily river life and the many picturesque 'weekend' homes that now line the river bank. When you arrive your enthusiastic guide will help to bring the war to life by walking you through the tactics that were used by these ruthless fighters. If you're feeling brave enough, descend into the cramped tunnels for a taste of what life was like a guerrilla soldier on the front line. Once your tour is over, you'll be taken through the beautiful countryside to a local cricket farm. Many Vietnamese consider crickets a delicacy, and you'll have the opportunity to try these unique treats (only if you fancy it!). Tuck in to a tasty traditional lunch to top off this culturally rich day.
Great experience and recommended for those who want to have an in depth view of what it was like during the Vietnam war. We had only one weekend so decided to spend one day in the city and one in Cu Chi area. We started our trip early in the morning with Hotel pick up (this is not a private tour and we had to go and pick up other participants) and met our guide Hui. The speedboat is about 75 minutes and a nice breezy journey on the river outside the city. Once at Cu Chi Area the tour starts with a quick brief and weapons showcase, then walk in the jungle where the guide showed us some old traps and the tunnel area. Not recommended for those who suffer of small spaces.. After the tunnel and the Cu Chi area we were brought to the crickets farm which is interesting but honestly not amazing unless you like extreme food experiences. The trip ended with a beautiful local lunch in a small traditional restaurant (lunch is included into the price, drinks are not). Absolutely recommended!
I enjoyed the tour with our guide but thought the tunnels were longer, though I only hunched my way through 20 meters. Youre able to shoot guns of the war but the minimum was 350,000VND and i was on a budget so I passed. They explain how traps were used, bombshell fragment usage, why the Vietnamese wore what they did and how they made weapons. There is a documentary movie about the people of Cu Chi during the war and how they defended themselves from the Americans.
