What We Love:

Get to the heart of Japanese culture and discover the kind of cooking that goes on in everyday homes and at 'Izakaya' restaurants (cozy Japanese style pubs!) Spend an afternoon learning how to prepare an array of authentic dishes. Try your hand at making dashi steamed rice, or show off your skills preparing steamed egg custard. You'll have the opportunity to dress in traditional buddhist monk wear to enhance the cultural experience - make sure you take a photo! It's a fun filled afternoon of cultural and culinary exploration - foodies, this one's for you!

Sample Menu:

  • Steamed Egg Custard – Chawan mushi (茶碗蒸し)
  • Gyoza (餃子)
  • Simmered beef and vegetables – Shigureni (牛肉しぐれ煮)
  • Green beans with sesame dressing (いんげんの和え物)
  • Dashi based soup – Osuimono (お吸い物)
  • Dashi steamed rice (炊き込みご飯)

Additional Information:

  • Child ticket: Age 6-12
  • Children under the age of 5 can join for free sharing the same set of ingredients with an adult
  • 2 participants will cook together sharing the same set of ingredients
  • For vegetarian customers, meat and fish can be replaced with vegetables and other ingredients

The chef is patient as we have 2 kids and she gave some toys for my son to let him play. The instruction and recipe is clear and food is delicious. Recommend for those who wants to have a glimse of japanese cooking.


This tour is highly recommended to whom is very interested to the Japanese culture, especially their cuisine. The teachers are very nice and friendly. We spent a great afternoon there. However, I think it will be better if everyone has their own cooking utensils, then we can make all the dishes by ourselves and don't need to make the dishes with someone else.


Great session learning different Japanese dishes. It was really hands on, which meant that we had to do everything from preparing the ingredients to cooking them. We were first given yukatas to wear, before getting an overview of Japanese cuisine. After that it was straight into the cooking as the instructors guided us from one dish to the next. We prepared a total of 4 dishes in pairs, while rice and soup were prepared in a group setting. The instructors were also really friendly, and constantly engaged with us throughout the session, making us feel at home. The best part of the activity was of course eating our own creations! Quantity of food was sufficient too!
