Get to the heart of Japanese culture and discover the kind of cooking that goes on in everyday homes and at 'Izakaya' restaurants (cozy Japanese style pubs!) Spend an afternoon learning how to prepare an array of authentic dishes. Try your hand at making dashi steamed rice, or show off your skills preparing steamed egg custard. You'll have the opportunity to dress in traditional buddhist monk wear to enhance the cultural experience - make sure you take a photo! It's a fun filled afternoon of cultural and culinary exploration - foodies, this one's for you!
Great session learning different Japanese dishes. It was really hands on, which meant that we had to do everything from preparing the ingredients to cooking them. We were first given yukatas to wear, before getting an overview of Japanese cuisine. After that it was straight into the cooking as the instructors guided us from one dish to the next. We prepared a total of 4 dishes in pairs, while rice and soup were prepared in a group setting. The instructors were also really friendly, and constantly engaged with us throughout the session, making us feel at home. The best part of the activity was of course eating our own creations! Quantity of food was sufficient too!
