The experience was extremely worth it! :') Our driver, Deny reached our homestay on time at 3.45am and we managed to reach Setumbuk early to have a cup of coffee. After, we climbed up the hill and got to see the sunrise. The walk up was manageable, hence we will highly recommend it! On your way down, visit Kedai Kopi Punthuk Setumbu for the whimsical decor and amazing singkong goreng (we went on to search for an even better fred cassava and till date, it is the best we have had)! The trip to Borobudur Temple was smooth and our English speaking guide (unfortunately I forgot his name) was exceptional. We were able to feel his love for the monument. He emphasised to not touch the reliefs and to not sit on the stupas. Thank you so much for sharing about the significant stories of Buddha and your love for the place. It is really quite something to walk in one of the world's seven wonders. We had a lovely time and will recommend this to experience to you!
It's a beautiful experience. Our driver Hegi picked us up right on time at 3.45 and we arrived perfectly on time to start our walk from the small parking up to the hill. We had a beautiful sunrise. After that we went to Borobodur. As Klook offered us to buy the tickets for the higher level through them for 150k each, we of course said yes. It was all perfectly managed and we had a great time.
Our driver Antoni was very responsible, picked up the car on time, and the car was in clean condition. The team communicated smoothly and bought us the very hard-to-buy Brahmaputra summit tickets and were among the first batch to avoid the sun during the day. The scenery from the sunrise observation deck is great, in the Lifetime Series. We also stopped by the Chicken Church, which was a very unique experience. Our driver Antoni is a really nice and kind guy with an impressive drive skill. The tour is incredibly forgettable.
On the afternoon (1day before trip), I received a group Whatapps chat from klook and local agent, on pick up confirmation. That night, the driver Adi messaged to confirm actual pick up timing and car number. Adi drives safe and was very helpful & friendly. His English is quite good. It was unfortunately a cloudy day, and we did not get to see a scenic sunrise. For Borobudur, we paid additional 150k per person for special access to climb the temple. This includes a pair of sandals, guide and temple access(pls note that sandals is a must to enter temple).
The Borobudur sunrise tour was truly amazing, and our guide Wahyu made it even better -he arrived an hour early, kept perfect time, and gave insightful explanations throughout. ***Now about the Borobudur: The temple itself is breathtaking, though we were a bit disappointed to see some visitors sitting on the ancient structure despite the guide clearly stating it's not allowed. Given that it's a UNESCO-protected site, we feel more staff should be stationed at the top to gently enforce these simple rules. Also, the free time felt quite rushed one hour wasn't quite enough to fully take in the grandeur of the place.
Our driver Romy was very punctual and picked us up early in the morning. As discussed the day before, he bought us tickets for the waiting list, gave us a basic introduction to Borobudur, and guided us to change into slippers and wait for the park guide. The ticket to the summit includes the cost of the scenic guide and bamboo slippers. The scenic guide is very helpful and speaks good English. Borobudur itself is very spectacular, and one can only imagine its glory in its heyday. There is also a Borobudur memorial hall in the park, which has an English introduction and is worth a visit. It is a must-visit place when visiting Yogyakarta
reporting time was at 4am, it was cold 🥶! highly recommended to layer with sth warm for the hill to catch the sunrise. enjoyed the photo area for picture taking too! for the temple, best to get the special access ticket to climb up the temple with these sandals 🙏
Prima picked us up early in the morning at our hotel. He drove us to the viewing point where we were offered a coffee/tea before the short walk to the actual viewing point. We watched the beautiful sunrise and headed back down to go for breakfast at this lovely restaurant Van Bloemen. after the lunch we had a short drive to Borobudur and Prima helped us to get in and we went on a guided tour of Borobudur temple. Once we were back he was waiting for us with an airconditioned car and dropped us of at our requested point. Prima was a lovely guide and we had a lot of fun with him. Would 100% recommend this tour!
this tour (like the prambanan sunset tour) also consists of the transport to and from the sunrise point and borobodur and the entrance fees. you'll need to top up for the extra special access ticket at 80k rupiah to go up to borobudur and have a guide share abt the architecture with you. for this tour, I felt the arrangement was worth it because it's not simple to self arrange transport at 3am in the morning to make it for sunrise. moreover, I had a really good driver Nicko who spoke very well and made sure I was all set up for sunrise. he also made it a point to secure my special access ticket early lest I have to wait for the following session which would be much later in the day. just a note - in order to secure those tickets, you won't be able to wait for the whole sunrise to complete.
Captivating experience. Witnessed the sky slowly light up with the sun rising between the two mountains at Punthuk Setumbu Hill. You’ll have to wait till almost 6am to witness this. A day before the trip, Klook’s affiliate informed us that we were able to climb higher than the Borobudur temple yard (closed previously due to Covid) at additional cost which we agreed. Best decision. Monks made the opening at 9am. It was quite a climb but worth the experience. The guide had ample knowledge and was funny.
