What to expect
No trip to the South Island is complete without visiting the breathtakingly beautiful Milford Sound. The fiord itself extends 16km inland from the Tasman Sea, with sheer granite cliffs extending up to 1700m above sea level. Like all the fiords and valleys in the Fiordland National Park, Milford was carved by five different glacier actions during the last great ice age 75,000 to 14,000 years ago. Some glaciers still remain, with the large blue cracking ice-falls providing a stark contrast to the rainforests below.
With between seven and eight metres of rainfall per year, Milford Sound is the wettest place in New Zealand. The lush rainforests cling to the cliff faces while seals, and the occasional dolphins and penguin ply the waters below.
You’ll leave from Queenstown Airport for the Fly-Cruise-Fly Milford Sound tour, with a guaranteed window seat, soaring across three mountain ranges, magnificent alpine valleys, lakes and glaciers into Fiordland National Park, New Zealand’s largest National Park. After arriving overhead Milford Sound, we will descend into the fjord to give you a close up of the features that make up this unique landscape before landing at Milford Sound Airport. Your pilot will escort you to the boat terminal to join our cruise boat partners, JUCY Cruise, on the Gem or Maiden to enjoy a 1hr 45min cruise of the fjord. Your journey will take you out to the Tasman Sea where you’ll encounter some of the wildlife that makes up this region. Expect to see seals and occasionally dolphins and penguins as you pass close to magnificent waterfalls and sheer granite cliffs, while your skipper provides you with a detailed and entertaining commentary of the region and its history. Berthing back at the wharf, you’ll be met by your pilot and escorted back to your awaiting aircraft. After leaving Milford, you’ll climb out over more snow-capped mountains on a different flight path, returning over Lake Wakatipu and descending back into Queenstown.
Our pilots pride themselves on providing an entertaining and knowledgeable commentary covering the entire flight. They love what they do and they will go out of their way to make you feel special on your Milford Sound tours. We can provide courtesy transport to and from your accommodation and Queenstown Airport, and we have free parking available should you choose to drive yourself.

Reviews summaryOverall I had a wonderful experience during the Fly Cruise Milford Sound trip. The crew did a fantastic job communicating about the pickup time and location. They even called me right after I landed in Queenstown to ensure that I can make it. They all had a very warm personality and the Pilot (Andrew) is such a rockstar. During the flight he explained about each of the interesting things to look out for and give us heads up about the weather. I felt safe flying with him. The Milford Sound cruise was just magical. I feel like I had been transported to another world the moment we landed at Milford. The scenery is pure perfection and everything looks like 4K. Such a beautiful place and I can’t wait to come again. Overall, I had a very positive experience during the entire trip and would recommend the Fly Cruise Experience for people who is short on time. Just a recommendation maybe you can also offer a package for a smaller cruise boat as well.
Absolutely fantastic experience. The flight was great, fantastic views from the aircraft. Great staff who are happy to help. Cruise was great, very informative and relaxing. Catamaran so the ride was very stable and my wife who is prone to seasickness actually enjoyed the boat ride. Highly recommend.
That is amazing trip in my life, The course was expensive, but it was worth the money. You should visit at least once in your lifetime. and you have to choose True South Flights every staff is cheerful and friendly.
It is one of the best flight experiences I have ever had. When you visit Queenstown, you should seize this opportunity to experience the Milford Sound. Our pilot Michael is a very nice guy who gave good information to passengers onboard.
experience: It’s worth it although it’s pricey. The nature is beautiful. The sceneries from the flight, the views you got from cruise are truly amazing. We saw some dolphins swimming around the cruise, numerous waterfalls, steep mountains etc. They provide complimentary water, coffee, tea and hot chocolate. There are food and drinks available for purchase at cruise. You can bring your own food on the cruise as well. Ours got postponed by 1 day due to weather, so you might want to leave a few days unplanned to reschedule if necessary.
our flight was delayed for 30 minutes to let the cloud clears up.. had the best time! our Pilot Patel did a great job explaining the places that we flew over.. the Pure Milford Cruise ship was cherry on top!
Really great way to get to Milford Sound - it's much quicker than driving if you are short on time, and the views from the flight are incredible. would recommend to do at least once. Cruise on the sound was great as well, lovely views and crew was informative.
Fly-Cruise-Fly was an unbeatable way to experience Milford Sound. Instead of 4 hours on a coach from Queenstown, the scenic flight was stunning and a total highlight. Our pilot Gareth was friendly & skilled, so the flight and landing were very smooth. The Milford Sound Cruise was spectacular, with the captain pointing out all the sights along the way so we didn't miss anything.
The True South tour was magnificent. It only takes about 40 minutes to get to Milford Sound, offering spectacular views of mountains, lakes, and bays on the way; we flew low above the peaks, which was breathtaking. Passenger safety and comfort are a top priority. Many thanks to our pilot, Andrew! Many thanks to True South team as they managed to move our booked tour to another date as it was cancelled due to the weather conditions.
Totally loved the experience! The majestic views of the mountain ranges and lakes from above are worth the price we paid! The cruise was also just as good and relaxing, with good commentary for both the flight and cruise.
