Family Friendly Shotover River Rafting and 4WD Canyon Experience
- Grade 2 river rafting experience, suitable for ages 3 and up
- This rafting experience starts at the "Ford of Bruinen" made famous by the Lord of the Rings movie
- Float down gentle Grade 1 & 2 rapids only (takes approx 1-1.5 hours on the river)
- On the way see gold mining relics, sheer canyon walls and you get to play on the odd rock jump.
- Includes a 45 minute 4WD experience along the historic Skippers Road to the rafting base
- Commentary on the way in and out of Skippers about scenic highlights and historical points of interest
What to expect
The trip kicks off with a 45 minute drive into the famous Skippers Canyon....
The Road through Skippers Canyon is quite possibly the most spectacular & scenic drive in New Zealand. The views are astounding and the area is packed with history and gold mining relics. Our knowledgeable guides will enthralled you with tales from the colourful gold mining last.
We take to the water at the "Ford of Bruinen" made famous by the Lord of the Rings movie. We then enjoy a gentle scenic excursion packed with fun for everyone from 3 - 103. We float down gentle Grade 1 & 2 rapids only (takes approx 1-1.5 hours on the river). On the way see gold mining relics, sheer canyon walls and get to play on the odd rock jump.

This is the only rafting that I have seen that is family friendly in New Zealand. We went on the tour with our kids aged 4 and 5, and everyone loved it! There were a couple of kids on the tour that were a bit afraid beforehand, but everyone was thrilled during the rafting. The guide was great and it felt really safe. The landscape is beautiful, the water a bit chilly but refreshing (we did it in December), and the rafting is really family friendly. We highly recommend the tour!! A great and fun guide, very good service, yummy snacks provided, beautiful landscapes when travelling from and to Queenstown by bus. The rafting itself was calm with some minor “waterfalls” perfect for kids. Our son wanted to go immediately again which says a lot. :-)
amazing experience for the entire family. my 7 yo daughter thoroughly enjoyed it! the guide was excellent- knowledgeable and very friendly. we had so much fun at this once in a lifetime experience. highly recommended!!!
the drive for the rafting was very steep and narrow. the sight was beautiful but the rapid was very low. overall it wa superb fantastic!
