The first time I went, it was very quiet with no shows, so I'm surprised how much it's changed. If you spend the whole day, you can catch many performances. Today's three-hour visit was very fulfilling; the "Monkey King's Journey" show was really interesting. I absolutely loved the very Taiwanese Master Tang Monk, LOL.
The Yilan Traditional Arts Center is one of the must-visit attractions every time I come to Yilan. There are many activities inside, such as this time's theme which introduced the life story of Yang Li-hua, the queen of Taiwanese opera. There are also many performances, such as a Taiwanese opera performance recounting the story of Bai Ze Qi's deception, and the "Journey to the West" with the Monkey King, featuring singing and dancing. The "Journey to the West" with the Monkey King was one of the most memorable parts of my trip this time.
The feeling is different every time I come here. I stayed overnight before, but this time I just came to hang out. It is really worth coming here to watch the performances. This time I watched the performance of "The Monkey King Makes Trouble in the Dragon Palace", one at 10:30 in the morning and one at 2:00 in the afternoon, a total of two times, and the children were very happy. The atrium water mist square is also great, but it is recommended to go there in the morning. Going there in the afternoon will cause water accumulation due to poor water permeability, and children's feet will get wet.
It's been a long time since I last visited the Yilan Traditional Arts Center. The layout inside is quite good, but the electric tour boat closes too early; the last boat departs at 4:10 PM. However, that area is perfect for watching the sunset after 5:00 PM.
The National Center for Traditional Arts boasts a beautiful environment, blending traditional architecture, craft experiences, and performing arts, making it a great place for families to visit. The park features numerous hands-on experiences, opera performances, and unique snacks, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the rich cultural atmosphere of Taiwan. The overall layout is clear, with plenty of photo-worthy spots, but some shops are a bit pricey, and it can get crowded when there are many people. Overall, it is well worth planning a half-day or full-day trip, offering both educational and recreational opportunities to relax and unwind. Experiences: Facilities:
I've been to the National Center for Traditional Arts several times, and this time I specifically arranged for the kids to do a Dalgona DIY activity at Wu Yi Po's. Although it wasn't successful in the end, the memories are priceless, and the shop even gave the children special small gifts as compensation, which made us very happy!
Getting ready for the school year? Make the most of the summer vacation before school starts and have some fun! It's been a while since I've been to the Yilan National Center for Traditional Arts, and the shops and facilities inside are quite different from what I remember. The resident drama "The Monkey King Wreaks Havoc in the Dragon Palace" is a must-see. Because it's summer vacation, there are also nighttime performances. The actors interact well with the audience, making it very worthwhile to watch. It's definitely a place worth visiting. Plus, the ticket and parking fees are very reasonable. I really think you need two days to see everything! If I have the chance, I'd love to visit again!
Worth to spend half a day here. The theatre show on Monkwy God and their journey to the west is v entertaining. Will consider a second time when we visit Yilan again. experience:

Yilan National Center for Traditional Arts

The Yilan National Center for Traditional Arts is a paradise for all art, culture, and literature lovers, and is an absolute must-visit destination when traveling in Yilan.

There are three main architectural structures to visit within the park, including the Wenchang Temple, the former residence of Huang Tsuan-hsu (Yilan's first imperial scholar), and the Guangxiao Hall. Each possesses its own unique characteristics and serves as a representative of local art and culture. The Wenchang Temple is regarded by locals as a sanctuary for scholars because the Five Sage Wenchangs enshrined within it have long blessed students. In addition, its main hall houses deities such as the patron saints of traditional opera and crafts, which hold immense significance for the transmission and inheritance of Yilan's traditional arts. Aside from these three buildings, there are numerous other attractions to explore within the park.

Mandarin Orange Turtle 2

The Mandarin Orange Turtle symbolizes peace and good fortune. The Center has condensed the ten-thousand-jin Mandarin Orange Turtle into a healing, palm-sized trinket. Its exterior replicates the textures of rattan weaving and citrus fruits, while the packaging adopts a soulful “fruit crate” design, making the act of gift-giving feel like sending a box of “complete fulfillment and all-around good luck” directly from the farm. Whether you are praying for smooth-sailing exams, career advancement, or simply hoping for a little extra luck on your desk, this Yilan traditional arts specialty is an excellent choice.
