great experience to visit this volcanic island and did some hiking to the summit. magnificent view and great sense of achievement as would require perseverance and efforts to walk up, summit is 249km height. weather was windy with occasional rain. Recommended for once in a lifetime experience!
Buying tickets using klook is much cheaper than buying at machines or counter in Auckland because I can use my klook credit😁 The confirmation take less than 5 minutes. I received tickets via my email. Theres instruction to change it to physical ticket. The ferry will depart at 0930am but you must come 30 minutes early at piers for preparation. Please bring foods and plastic ( for rubbish) because there are no restaurant selling food at the islands. To walk to summit will take about 2 hours or more depending on how fast you are walking. Me and my family are so lucky to meet Car. They help us and sent us back TO jetty😅 please bring mat because there is no sitting area at Rangitoto island.
Sometimes the boat stops at other than Pier 2. The counter will tell you which pier the boat is at. When you arrive, the staff will remind you to listen carefully before brushing the soles of your shoes, and then scan the QR code in the mailbox. After arriving, there are toilets at the pier station, but there are toilets on the island. If there is no store, you have to bring water and food. The main thing is that the bag must have a zipper design to seal the food and water. You can't just carry it with you in a bag. It takes about 30 minutes to drive and stop at Devonport, and then you can get off the ship. Go to the RANGITOTO SUMMIT route. The main thing is not to wear ordinary shoes. There are a lot of gravels. You may not be able to go up but it will be slippery when you come down. Be careful. There are 2 minutes of stairs at the top to reach the grandstand. Many people have lunch on it, and they don’t wait for anyone on the return trip. Please pay attention to the time.
An excellent trip! very organised and safe travel to Rangitoto island! one of the best islands for a nature hike!
Save time by booking tickets through the platform and checking in upon arrival. The trip is well worth it. In addition to exploring the geological wonders on the deserted island, the trails are exceptional. Highly recommend taking the cave trail!
Auckland Rangitoto is a volcanic island that is like a landmark representing Auckland and can be seen from all over the city. It's a great place to go for a hike, and you can see downtown Auckland at a glance from the top of the crater. You can also explore the lava tubes, lighthouses, beaches, and a bridge that connects you to a much older island called Motutapu. I purchased a ferry to Rangitoto from Klook and exchanged it for a physical boarding pass at the Fullers Shipping Office on the day of departure. It takes approximately 25 minutes to get from Auckland Ferry Terminal to Rangitoto.
It is cheaper than the on-site price, and there is no need to queue up to buy tickets. You can go directly to the boarding gate to scan and board the ship. The scenery on the island is beautiful, but the mountain road is a bit trembling and a bit far away. It is recommended to bring some food. It is more suitable to make an appointment for the boat at 2 o'clock
All the trekking paths are very well maintained with some scenic views at some points. Very quiet and peaceful island. It's worth it by much.
Great day on the island. Full immersion in the nature and stunning views from the top. It was a very sunny day without a cloud and the city was clearly visible. The ferry service was impeccable.
The Rangitoto ferry from downtown Auckland is quick (about 25 minutes) but packed with great views. The crew was helpful, pointing out landmarks like the harbour bridge and Devonport along the way. The boat is clean and stable, with plenty of outdoor deck space for photos. Once you arrive, the island’s rugged lava fields and the summit track await – the ferry times are well spaced, giving you a solid 4–5 hours to explore. My only minor suggestion: arrive early, as the return queue can get long on sunny weekends. Also, bring water and sunscreen; there’s no shop on the island. Overall, a smooth, reliable service that gets you to one of Auckland’s best day trips.
