Did the 10:45 tour w/lunch. I suggest the curry, as I had the seafood, and it tasted a bit bland. Also, the curry is what’s supposedly famous. Everyone else didn’t get lunch, so they just sat and chilled when we ate. :/ and 1 person decided last minute to get lunch. There may not be enough ingredients, so do make up your mind early about lunch. You’re offered another opportunity to add it when we meet up. The tourguide/driver Mr. Zhou waited right outside the meeting point for us, and had a list of the passengers. He doesn’t speak English, but I’d expected an audio guide in English to listen along to, since my Chinese isn’t great. Ironically, my husband and I ended up translating in English for the other passengers from the Philippines. I’m sure Mr. Zhou, who wants you to call him “Lao Zhou” for Old Zhou, felt bad asking us, and even gave us a gift. He’s a quirky old guy who jokes around, but it’s a shame not many were listening since they can’t help it. He DID give 2 tablets, and I assume this was to help with the tour but no one really looked at them. I wouldn’t worry too much if you fear missing out on info from him. Some of what he said was interesting, but most of it was just pointing out the history of places along the way, like what used to be a jail, areas that are now for airports, etc... Interesting tidbits. He is mindful of the time, so he asked if anyone is trying to catch a train by certain time, because tour may run a little later, and he changed the itinerary slightly but explained why. It was either to avoid the larger tourist groups so we wouldn’t be stuck, or because of safety reasons (didn’t want us to get lost lol). Tour itself: Okay, you get some good shots, a lot of interesting images you wouldn’t have seen unless it was pointed out. You’re given some info on each place and off you wander. It’s mostly 20-30mins at each POI. There’s one point where Lao Zhou will point out his personal POI. There’s free wifi on the bus, login & pw are posted inside.

What To Expect

Take a private day tour to what is arguably Taiwan's most scenic destination, Taroko National Park. Showcasing a diverse range of nature and wildlife: travel from rugged coast, to luscious forest, to the dramatic cliff faces of 19km Taroko Gorge. Delve into the heart of the park at the Swallow Grotto Trail, interspersed with tunnels and the best viewpoint for overlooking the narrowest part of the gorge, where the river is at its most dramatic. After lunch in scenic Tianxiang, you'll visit the Changchung Shrine (or the Eternal Spring Shrine), a beautiful temple nestled within the hillside, atop a waterfall stream that supposedly never stops running (hence the name of the shrine). Before ending at Qixingtan, famed for its pebble beach and fantastic views of the Pacific Ocean.

We had an issue with finding the tour bus because there was no sign, but the tour guide was active in trying to find us. Driver is very knowledgable at introducing the places. Thankfully we understood Mandarin too because he is not very skilled in English. To end the day, he dropped everyone off at their preferred location and that’s great!

I went by myself on the tour and it was such a beautiful and amazing day. It was some of the most breathtaking sights I had ever seen and allowed me to really appreciate the beauty that Taiwan has to offer. Do bring a raincoat and umbrella though because it is misty up in the gorge! Lunch was also very good. We were served chicken or pork curry with rice.

The guide was so nice and friendly. Everything was nicely planned out. Just make sure to go with an open mind and an adventurous heart!! The swallow trail was my favourite as it was so fun. I did not book the lunch but I saw what my tour mates were eating and it looked so delicious 😋 I actually bought the food myself so that I could have some too!

Friendly guide whom gave a very detailed tour but the tour benefits more for those who can understand mandarin language more.
  • Lodewijck 16 Mar 2019
I requested an English speaking guide but instead i ended up with a guide who only spoke Mandarin. The so called sightseeing in the city centre of Hualien existed only of a visit to a pine tree park. The lunch was quite good but the program is really unclear and since i dont speak Mandarin and the guide doesn’t speak English it could have been a much better and more interesting tour.

Amazing. I think this was the best day trip i have ever experienced. Our tour guide was very enthusiastic on explaining the details, with a little hindrance because he only spoke chinese but we were lucky for there was someone who was able to translate the details for us. One of the highlights of this day trip was the lunch because the curry that was served was so delicious that for someone like me who does not eat curry that much was able to eat everything on the plate. We were able to get a clear view of the Pacific Ocean and other attraction around Hualien. Another thing that made me so happy about this trip was that we were right on time. Our guide did not let us wait and made sure that we were comfortable and happy.

We eaasily found our tour driver, a very nice elderly man, again on time. We were a small group of six in the tour, which makes the trip more relaxed and enjoyable. ALthough our guide can't speak English, he was able to communicate and he really tried and gave extra efforts to explain, sonetimes through a couple of guests who readily interpreted for him. We were able to visit all the places in the itinerary and it was so cool.
