Traveler reviews
An amazing experience! We spent six days in Siem Reap, and this tour was one of the most unforgettable, perfectly combining nature and culture. It was pouring rain when we were picked up in the afternoon, but by the time we reached the lake, it had cleared up and we even saw a rainbow. We first took a large boat into the village; during the rainy season, the houses look like they are truly floating on the water. The residents, especially the children, enthusiastically wave at you. Although living conditions are tough, you can feel that they are enjoying the present moment. Once inside the village, you can switch to a small rowboat paddled by local women to enter the flooded forest. If you put on headphones and play some music, the sound of nearby boat motors fades away, bringing a unique and moving sense of peace. Finally, there was the sunset. While today's sunset might not have been top-tier, seeing locals swimming in the lake and children playing on the boats—so fully enjoying the moment—made it truly special. Our tour guide, Jack, was fantastic—very humorous and attentive to everyone. I also really appreciated his philosophy of not overly disrupting the locals' lives. And our driver, James, would always be waiting at the car door with ice-cold water and wet wipes whenever we returned. If you come to Siem Reap, you absolutely must not miss this tour.
I participated in the afternoon tour. Tour schedule: The itinerary starts by traveling in an air-conditioned van close to the floating village, and from there you switch to a large boat. You tour the floating village while listening to explanations from the tour guide, Happy tear. You can get a close-up look at houses, a police station, a school, children heading out in canoes, and the floating market! After taking a short break and an optional mangrove boat experience, you board the boat again and head toward Tonle Sap Lake. The view of the sunset reflecting on the lake stretching out as far as the eye can see is breathtaking, and it is worth coming just for this! Attraction along the way: For $5.50 for one person or $11.00 for two, you can ride a two-person mangrove boat (canoe). A local guide will row the boat and take you on a 30-minute tour through the mangrove forest. While there is no commentary, it is highly recommended as you can experience the mystery of nature. Everyone in my group participated. Guide: Our guide, Happy tear, was very cheerful and provided easy-to-understand explanations! When we were caught in a sudden squall along the way, they provided a sheltered spot and umbrellas. They handled the situation flexibly, such as waiting until the squall stopped, which gave us great peace of mind. The driver, Bond, had a very kind smile and guided me when I was having trouble finding the van.
The Floating Village and Tonle Sap tour with guide Meng and driver Sal was an exceptionally good experience. Meng did so well sharing Cambodian life and what it is really like living in a Floating Village. Being able to walk a Village and see kids at play, learning English was a bonus. You will not regret doing the Mangrove boat tour either and it supports local families....so, so good!
What a fabulous tour, led by Meng and our driver James Bond ! my husband and i thoroughly enjoyed this tour, we weren’t sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. We were collected by mini bus and driven to the boat, we then explored the floating village, even though it was the dry/winter season you could see where the water rose too and imagine the village as it would be in the rainy season. We then walked around the village seeing how they lived, the schools and shops etc. Then back on the boat to our next stop where we took canoes which were paddled by women through the mangroves. we then stopped at a floating restaurant/bar to watch the sun starting to set. What an amazing tour thank you to Meng 5 stars from us, would definitely recommend this trip, great contrast to th temples of Angkor Wat.
Our tour guide Happy Tear and driver Micheal is super professional! Happy Tear is so funny and full of local knowledge (he once was a local fisherman) and speaks fantastic English. He can answer all questions I ask with super patience and details. Floating village is one of my favourite because our guide!
My family and I went on this half-day tour with Jack, our tour guide. Jack was extremely accomodating and friendly, ensuring that we were comfortable the entire time. He was very knowledgeable about the village’s historic aspects and communicated well with our tour group. We took a small group tour, and the eight of us took a bus to the floating village and a boat to a restaurant on the water. We really liked the small group setting as it helped us to feel more heard and at ease. Jack was super helpful and answered all of our questions!
It was a nice tour to visit Kampong Phluk during dry season as we get the privilege of entering and seeing the village on foot. We were told that the only possible way to visit the village is by boat during the wet season as everything will be flooded. The boat ride to Tonle Sap was also an enjoyable one. Meng (our guide) and Handsome (driver) were fantastic in managing the group. Meng was very kind and funny as well. The information that he delivered about the lives in the floating village was really eye-opening.
Meng our tourist guide was very friendly and patient in explaining the culture, the background information about the floating village ( since he is from one). Tha ( play boy) our driver was prettt awesome as well. it was a very educational and eye opening trip for us ( me and my parents) - we all had a great time. One more thing that was pretty good was taking the canoe trip down the mangrove forests - it benefits the local village women directly and we get to see the mangrove forests and the village up close. Thank you once again!!!
