Shuangta Temple, located in the southern suburbs of Taiyuan City, is one of Taiyuan City's iconic buildings and the main motif on Taiyuan City's emblem. Shuangta Temple was originally called Yongzuo Temple, founded in the mid-Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1597-1602). Because there are two tall pagodas within the temple, locals are accustomed to calling it Shuangta Temple. The two tall pagodas are in the southernmost part of the temple, both made of brick and stone, with exquisite carvings on their bodies. In the square flower bed in front of the temple's Mahavira Hall, there are peonies planted during the Ming Dynasty. Every spring, when the peonies are in full bloom, visiting Shuangta Temple to admire the peonies is also a great pleasure for Taiyuan citizens.
