Reviews summaryIt was quite a drive to get there, but it was a pleasant one. We had a fun and informative experience making traditional Balinese food, accompanied by friendly small talk in a welcoming atmosphere. We went to the market, where we learned a lot about unfamiliar fruits we'd never seen before. It was especially interesting to taste snake fruit, which has different flavors depending on its size. We had to prepare nine dishes, so there was quite a lot to do. It was enjoyable to chop, stir-fry, and handle the ingredients while listening to explanations, making the whole process far from boring. Highly recommended!
This tour package offers the best value for money in Bali. My friend and I went for around 27,000 won, and it included 8 dishes + 1 dessert, plus a local market tour exclusively for the morning session. I highly recommend the local market tour! They let us sample various local fruits and desserts, and also explained a lot about Balinese culture. The cooking class was also taught very kindly, step-by-step, so even if you don't speak English, you can still enjoy the experience. Both the teacher and staff were incredibly friendly. Honestly, I'd recommend this cooking class over a Mount Batur tour.
Absolutely fantastic! If you're coming to Bali, you definitely have to schedule this. If you participate in the morning class, you'll first go to a local market to browse and learn about some of the unique local fruits, vegetables, or foods. You can buy things you like or not (no pressure!). Then you'll take a walk through the rice fields ~ (brief stop). Afterward, you'll return to the class location (inside a local house). Throughout the process, they introduce the ingredients and teach everyone how to cook. I think the process is designed very well, with almost no dull moments or times when you feel like you're wasting time waiting around. It's a series of surprises, one after another, but whether you like them or not is a matter of personal taste. Just based on the experience of this class, it's great! Highly recommended! It's my favorite part of this trip to Bali!
I was picked up on time and had a fulfilling 4 hours with a well-organized schedule. Exploring the local market was a fun experience, and cooking in a Balinese home made me feel closer to Bali. Although it was a group cooking class, everyone participated and enjoyed it, and families with children could participate without any difficulty. Seeing Balinese local food, the market, homes, and neighborhoods, there's nothing quite like a cooking class. It felt a bit far from Ubud, but that also felt like part of the journey, and although Bali isn't perfectly pristine, there was nothing to be worried about.
The pickup service, market tour, and cooking class were all enjoyable and meaningful. The instructor's explanations were detailed and engaging, and the other staff members were very kind and provided excellent service. The cooking itself wasn't difficult, and all the staff put in a lot of effort to ensure everything ran smoothly. The only minor issue was with the drop-off service at the end; instead of taking us all the way to the hotel, they dropped us off midway, which made getting back a bit challenging. Since we were dropped off on the main road with other participants, we each had to find our way back to our accommodations. We were all asking each other, "Where are we?" It wasn't a place where we'd get completely lost, but the lack of clear instructions left us a bit flustered. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience!
What an amazing class! the chef was very friendly and accommodating. He brought us to the local market and shared details of the offerings that was made everyday. My wife and I learnt the different Balinese recipes and cooking techniques. The chef had a great sense of humour and we loved the whole new experience of cooking and getting to know their culture alittle bit more. It was a blessing that we were the only ones for the class as most of the participants had signed up for the afternoon session. However, we could not finish what we cooked and he even helped us to pack it in a box. Overall, we had an extraordinary experience with this cooking class. Highly Recommended! No Regrets!
The experience was fun. Able to learn and expose to the local food. Able to see, smell and taste it is fun way of discovering the culture. The staff are so helpful and accommodating. Location is far from the city, so be on time on the pickup point and avail of free service. Even solo traveling, it's not a problem.
I had an amazing time on this tour and would highly recommend it. I was picked up from my hotel in central Ubud at 7:30am and taken to a local morning market, where our guide explained the different fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices used in Balinese cooking. We also got to try some local fruits etc. After a short drive to the cooking class, the guide walked us through the ingredients and recipes for the 9 Balinese dishes we made. Most ingredients were already prepped, which made the class run smoothly and let us focus on the cooking, time for short breaks and then eating!!! The food was absolutely delicious 😋 The guides all checked in on our preferences for vegetarian, spice tolerance etc. The whole experience was very well organised, professional, and hygienic (for Bali). The staff were fun, and other guests were all so friendly - a mix of solo travellers, couples, and friends. Such a great experiences in Bali!
what an amazing experience. booked this cooking class just 2 days before but the while process was seamless and the team communicated clearly and early that the driver will be late. it was very fun to tour the morning market and cook balinese food and taste it afterwards.
Everything was fantastic! We started at the food markets and were told about local fruits and food. Then we went to the kitchen to cook some amazing dishes. The host was hilarious and knowledgeable. We could even see a giant volcano from the kitchen. 10/10 would recommend.
