Kanazawa: Kenrokuen Tea Ceremony Experience

I was surprised by how beautiful the facility was! I was greeted with wonderful kimonos and treated with great care, I could feel the spirit of hospitality. Starting with the history of tea ceremony and the story of the Maeda family's tea party at Kenrokuen Garden, I received explanations about etiquette and the spirit of tea ceremony, and was served tea, so I was able to experience what tea ceremony is like for the first time! On top of that, I also had the experience of making tea myself, and I received polite answers to the questions I asked along the way, and I had a very meaningful time. I don't think there are many places like this to have this kind of experience anywhere in the country. I would recommend it to people from overseas, but I would also like many Japanese people to experience it.

We had a wonderful time at the tea ceremony, which was led by a very professional woman. The ceremony was conducted in French, which was a real plus. Everything was perfect, and I highly recommend this activity during your stay in Kanazawa.

When we couldn't get into a tea ceremony in one of the original geisha houses, we booked this one at the gardens. Our instructor was perfect. Her English was spot on, she was able to crack jokes, witty and informative. The whole experience was marvelous. We went into a private tatami mat room, her and her assistant showed start to finish the tea ceremony process, then we got to try making matcha ourselves. At the end, we got a ¥500 discount on the tea ceremony sets for sale in the shop!

Fantasic experience with a lot of insight on Japanese tea ceremonies. Our guide was very friendly and made the atmosphere very inviting. Small snacks to complement the matcha were included. Also had the chance to make our own matcha which was nice! Certainly recommend to anyone in Kanazawa! Also you must get admission to the garden for 350 yen before attending the ceremony so make sure you give so time in the busy season.

We loved the experience and learned a lot about tea and tea ceremonies. The sweets and matcha were delicious and the hosts were very knowledgeable and provided a lot of insights on Japanese tea culture and customs. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful time at this tea ceremony in a quiet, traditional tea room. The hostess explained everything in a super understandable way, while a second person prepared the tea and showed us each step. Delicious Japanese sweets were served, and afterward, we were able to make matcha ourselves with guidance. Very warm, relaxed, and highly recommended!
