You can choose to redeem your tickets at Nishitetsu Tenjin Station or Nishitetsu Yakuin Station. Tickets can only be redeemed and used on the same day. Upon arrival at Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station, there used to be a free shuttle bus to the boarding area. However, when I visited in June, the shuttle bus required a fee (additional ticket purchase). If you prefer to walk, it takes about 5-8 minutes to reach the boarding area. Boats depart as soon as they are full. The boatman will describe the scenery and buildings along the way, and occasionally sing a few songs. Some boatmen provide commentary entirely in Japanese, while others mix Japanese and English. Whether you're going to Yanagawa or Dazaifu, there are often special sightseeing trains, the Tabibito and Suito, available at certain times. You'll need to check their official websites for schedules. Once you arrive at Dazaifu, you can use the Umegae Mochi exchange coupon on the far left of your ticket to redeem it at participating stores. Remember to ask the store before redeeming, as not all stores participate. If you don't plan to eat it immediately, you can also ask for it to go. The shopping street around Dazaifu is definitely worth exploring. If the Ichiran Ramen line is too long, you can head to Danbo Ramen, diagonally across from the station, to satisfy your craving. The Dazaifu Pudding across from the station has a very rich milky flavor, and the slightly bitter caramel perfectly balances the sweetness. Additionally, there are stores like Sumikko Gurashi and Ghibli, as well as the famous wooden Starbucks designed by Kengo Kuma, which is perfect for a quick photo and a refreshing summer drink. The shopping street typically closes between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Don't worry about missing a train back to Tenjin or Yakuin, as services are very frequent!
This pass was a great way to experience Yanagawa and Dazaifu. The bunting was the best experience, especially since it was beginning of spring and cherry blossoms can be seen hanging over the canals! Beautiful sight. Dazaifu also has lots of cherry blossoms to see and also many desserts to taste. Great experience indeed.
Overall, the value for money isn't great; you save a little, but not much. As for the activities, the Yanagawa boat ride lasting over an hour was pretty good. The boatman, an elderly gentleman in his seventies, sang and talked for nearly 70-80 minutes straight, always with a smile. He sings Mandarin songs and knows how to entertain the people on board. Although it was a bit sunny, the time passed quickly. But besides the boat ride, there's not much else to do in Yanagawa. Dazaifu is quite boring, just a shopping street. The main hall is under renovation, with a temporary structure in front, which I actually found more interesting. What attracted me to Dazaifu were the various large and giant trees; it's rare to see trees that take seven or eight people to hug in China. You can see quite a few in Dazaifu, but otherwise, it's just the usual Tenmangu shrine stuff, nothing special.
This set of tickets is quite affordable, the time is relatively controlled by yourself.Tickets can be picked up on the same day to the West Railway Tenjin (North Exit) (although the email says to go to the South Exit). I read a lot of comments before, know that Yanagawa Station has a dedicated person to lead to take the free shuttle, very clear. After taking the boat, there is no special person to lead the free shuttle to take the return trip, only ask to follow the given map to find yourself! Finally, I went to see "Yanagawa Castle" because it is near the bus station (Honjocho Station), almost time to walk to take the self-paid bus. (Google map can search for Gohanamae Station / Honjo Station).
definitely goto nishitetsu tenjin station to get your ticket inside the customer service office next to the booth. show the tickets though the ticket office and not at the kioski. once inside, find the Omuta line. whwn you get to yanagawa, as you exit, goto the customer service so they can take the stub off. after that, someone will tell you where to go to take the shuttle bus to take the boats. our punter did not climb over bridges, but did sing a couple of songs and explained a few things. it's a one way boat trip, so you have to walk to the shuttle bus, which was a little confusing to find. Dazaifu is just as described. We went on a rainy day so we were able to sit and eat ichiran right away. overall, a good package.
Upon arriving at Tenjin to pick up the tickets, after showing the voucher, the staff will ask for the usage date and number of people. Their service attitude is excellent, so remember to keep your tickets safe. As soon as we arrived in Yanagawa, someone immediately asked if we were there for the boat ride, and we followed the staff to the shuttle bus. The whole process was very smooth. The weather for the boat ride was fantastic and very comfortable; those sensitive to the sun should definitely wear a hat. The boatman conversed with us using his limited English, which was very entertaining. The songs he sang seemed to be famous tunes, as the melodies felt familiar, but besides Doraemon, I really didn't know the names of the songs 😂. Afterward, we went to Dazaifu to get some Umegae Mochi, which was hot and fragrant. My family thoroughly enjoyed the entire trip! 🥳
The package deal is very practical. You can purchase the package on KLOOK on the same day and exchange it for physical tickets at either the Nishitetsu Tenjin South or North exit. Show the physical ticket when entering the station, and a staff member will tear off the ticket upon exit to validate it. There was about a 40-minute wait to board the boat at Yanagawa, likely due to the large number of visitors during cherry blossom season. The cherry blossoms at the boarding area are beautiful, and the boatman sang 1-2 songs along the way, creating a serene atmosphere. The unagi (eel) rice bowl isn't the best value for money, but it's still worth trying. You can redeem plum blossom mochi at many shops. Overall, I highly recommend this package; it made for a wonderful memory.
Ah, it was really, really great. I went to Yanagawa first, but it seems like there aren't many restaurants nearby... But there was an eel rice bowl restaurant that was pretty good! It's a 6-minute walk to the boat ride, so it's easy to walk there. The boat ride was so relaxing, and they gave explanations, the atmosphere was nice, and they sang songs, which was great, haha. Dazaifu was also very pretty and nice. The food they sell there was also very delicious and good, hehehe.
2025.10.16 Used by a Taiwanese person, it's fantastic! Bright and early, I took my parents from Hakata to Tenjin to pick up the tickets. You can pick up the tickets at the Nishitetsu Tenjin Station office on the 2nd floor from the W5 West 5 exit of the underground shopping street~ The reviews suggested going to Yanagawa first, then Dazaifu, and I think that's a great plan. I followed it, and it was truly awesome 😎 All train tickets are included, and you can also take a boat ride. For the tour, I recommend downloading Google Translate; you can understand almost everything they're saying. Highly recommended! Also, when you get to Dazaifu, you can go to Ichiran Ramen next to the station to get a ticket first. We went shopping and came back just in time to eat a bowl and leave, absolutely perfect!
The West Japan Railway (JR) has quite a few trains, so it's very convenient. This time, I took the "Water Metropolis" limited express train, which only stops at a few major stations, making it much faster. We took the 11:00 AM train and arrived in Yanagawa at 11:50 AM. After exiting Yanagawa Station, staff members guide you to the shuttle bus, which takes you directly to the boarding point for the river cruise. They also give you an informational map. The disembarkation point is a 5-minute walk to the shuttle bus pick-up location. The shuttle bus runs once an hour, but there are also city buses and taxis available. At each station, the station staff kindly tears off your ticket stub. I think Yanagawa is a very good and worthwhile experience.
