If it is a weekday and there are not many people, there may be more queues for exchanging tickets online than there are people buying tickets on site. Ordinary tickets are only valid for the outbound journey by ordinary boat. On the return trip, you can take whatever is available in the queue, maybe on a luxury ship. However, luxury ships have better interiors and more comfortable seats, so there is no need to buy luxury tickets.
