If you come to Iceland, aside from the Northern Lights tour, this would be my top recommendation. It's truly worth spending a day experiencing. Our guide, Jay, was incredibly professional. In addition to hiking, he taught us how to climb and rappel on the glacier using ropes and ice axes! I brought my mother, who is almost 60, and he professionally designed different routes and methods for us, allowing us to experience climbing in various ways. On this tour, the guide will do their best to take you to the highest accessible point of the day, so you can admire the glacier from different perspectives!
This is definitely the most worthwhile trip in Iceland besides seeing the Northern Lights. 1. First, the only drawback: the check-in location is not very accurate. There are 4 cabins on site, and a campsite next to it, making it easy to miss. The correct check-in location coordinates are 64.016131, -16.968153. 2. Remember to pay the parking fee. The following are all advantages: 3. You can rent waterproof hiking boots on site for 1500 ISK. They are clean and comfortable. You really can just rent them. 4. They strictly enforce standard safe mountaineering procedures, with a guide in front and one at the rear, strictly enforced almost from beginning to end. You definitely don't have to worry about falling behind, super reassuring. 5. The package includes: helmet, climbing harness, crampons. 6. Along the way, you get: *1 ice cave, *2 glacier crevasses, *1 small vertical ice cave exploration with climbing ropes (the climbing ropes are super heavy!!) 7. They will explain the formation of various landforms along the way and make jokes. It is a very relaxing trip. 8. You really climb until you can't climb any further on the glacier (a lot of cracks) before turning back. You are right there in the glacier! 9. The glacier is really blue! 10. There is a gas station & affordable restaurant near the campsite, so you can refuel before leaving. This trip is definitely worth recommending. Be sure to schedule a day to climb a glacier when you come to Iceland, and climb for a long time, it's really super beautiful!!!!
we joined the 5 hr glacier hike with around 3.5 hr walking on the ice. beautiful, not difficult. the guide is knowledgeable. however, we waited for the transfer bus for more than 30min, which the company should improve the transfer service
The guide is humorous and professional! A family member accidentally slipped and the guide responded quickly and handled the situation properly.
Our guide, Josh, was a lot of fun, and we had a great experience. We saw small waterfalls and crevasses in the glacier. It was definitely worth the ticket price, and the trek lasted almost five hours.
The guide Sara is friendly and professional, and the explanation is easy to understand. It is a great experience. After putting on the equipment, you will take a car to the destination, and then walk for about 25 minutes to the glacier before wearing the ice and starting hiking.
Safety measures are in place before departure, and the safety of clothing and equipment will be confirmed one by one. Please wear hard thick-soled hiking shoes, or rent them on site. The tour guide was professional and considerate. In addition to sharing the knowledge of the glacier in detail, he was also always concerned about everyone's feelings and health conditions, making us feel more at ease while climbing the iceberg. If you are physically unable to bear the burden, there are also shorter experience itineraries, so don’t miss it!
You can really walk on the glacier, very close to the glacier, the coach will also teach you walking skills, a great experience, worth a visit!
It was a great experience to be able to walk safely on the snowy mountains with claw shoes. We especially appreciate the professional and considerate leadership of our tour guide Mike, who led us deep into the glacier so that we could play safely on the glacier. His professional and detailed explanation of the various aspects of the glaciers in nature broadened our horizons.
Our guide, Ania, was excellent, and it was a wonderful experience. We signed up for the 5.5-hour tour, and the actual hiking time was 3.5 hours. Remember to bring food! There will be time to stop and rest and refuel halfway through.
