Our instructor Hana made our tea ceremony a very memorable one. She taught us not only about the ritual of the tea ceremony, but also to be present in the moment. I highly recommend this ceremony to anyone who is interested in learning more about Japanese culture, or just wanting to have a fun, educational, and memorable experience. Thank you Hana.

I found the tea ceremony experience on Klook. There are actually several tea ceremony experiences. I hesitated again and again and chose this one. The price is actually only a few dozen yuan different. The pictures and comments of this store feel very professional, and the store owner is also very friendly. I arrived about 20 minutes early. I thought that it would be like those restaurants where people can only be released on time. In fact, you can enter and wait if you arrive early. The store manager sister is very polite, warm and friendly. She greeted us first. When I came in, I was the first tea ceremony experiencer to arrive. She confirmed with me whether I was here to experience the tea ceremony. I said yes, and then said that I could sit on the chair and wait first. It was raining outside. She saw that my raincoat was wet, and she could also take a plastic bag to put the raincoat in. Finally, when I left, I gave it to her. It seems that half of the store is making clothes and the other half is tea ceremony experience. It also sells tea bowls and traditional crafts. Environment: It is on the first floor, very easy to identify, with aeru written on it gojo's shop is decorated in traditional Japanese style. It is very clean, small and warm. Experience: the shop will take care of every customer. Although I came alone, no one was left out. I started by breaking the ice. Everyone introduced their names and where they came from, and then talked about the highlights in Japan. Friends from various countries gathered together to share, including Thailand, Ireland, Mexico, Hong Kong, etc. Then we watched the store manager's tea ceremony performance. After the performance, we were asked to ask if we had any questions. I asked why we had to look left and right at the tea bowl. It turned out that it was because each tea bowl has a face. You face yourself before drinking, turn left when drinking, and turn back after drinking. This is the art of tea ceremony. After drinking, you have to observe your tea bowl. It seems that it is a respect for the tea bowl maker. Someone also asked if tea bowls are the same as rice bowls? The store manager thought the questions were very interesting and answered them patiently. The tea bowls will be different because the artists will make them more delicate. The overall process is very simple, just follow it. The store will also tell you some small details, I won’t disclose the details. I booked it on Klook, but the price seems to change by about 2 yuan. The first time I bought it was 215, I returned it and bought it again for 213. I went to see it again on the same day and it was 212. However, you have to make an appointment in advance, so it’s no longer troublesome. Overall, it is still highly recommended, the experience is very good, and it doesn’t matter if you speak English in bulk. If you don’t know each other, it’s good to understand a little bit. It’s also good to treat it as listening practice. The store manager’s English is very standard, without Japanese pronunciation, so great! The store manager’s sister said that traditional culture is slowly disappearing, and she also hopes to pass it on by running this store.

My husband and I enjoyed this experience. It was a simple experience which taught us the tradions around tea ceremonies and japan culture. It is challenging to sit on the Tatami mat for an hour but the host was very understanding and made us feel very comfortable. It's a great opportunity to ask questions about japanese culture as well. I learnt a lot from asking questions.

We were later trying to find the place, we came in the middle of the class yet the host is patient enough to allow us to join. We had a great time learning about the traditional tea ceremony with 100 year old machiya.🥰

Miki was an amazing hostess showing us the proper mannerisms of a traditional tea ceremony. She was so personable and treated us like family! I would highly recommend this experience if you are in Kyoto. AND if you want to practice your beginner-level Japanese, Miki was very encouraging when I practiced with her.

Although in Singapore, I am always served Matcha at my spa but I do want to know the whole process of what Matchiya Tea Appreciation and what it entails. I was told by the sensei of how to be seated, the bowl has a face and how to brisk in short, up and down movements of the powder with the hot water poured. After drinking will need to settle the bowl down and look at both sides of the bowl and bowed. the sweets to be taken after the matcha or one before drinking and one after drinking. enjoy the pleasant 40 mins session.
