Overall, we had a pleasant stay at the Shanghai Marriott Marquis. The location is excellent and makes it a great base for exploring the city. Our room was a good size and offered the level of comfort you'd expect from a Marriott property. That said, there were a few areas that could be improved. Housekeeping was a little inconsistent. On more than one occasion, the soap or shower gel dispensers weren't refilled, and some glass surfaces still had water marks, as though they had only been wiped over quickly. These are relatively minor issues, but they're not what you'd expect from a hotel of this standard. The concierge team could also be more proactive. A warmer welcome and a few more smiles would make guests feel much more valued. Unfortunately, the member of staff responsible for arranging taxis was particularly rude to my wife, which was disappointing and something I hope management addresses. One thing that genuinely surprised me was that the final bill was calculated using the exchange rate on the day of checkout rather than check-in. I'd recommend paying upfront if possible, unless you're happy to take the risk that exchange rates move in your favour. Finally, be aware that the hotel's laundry service is exceptionally expensive. I'd strongly recommend using one of the many local laundries instead, as you'll save a significant amount. Despite these criticisms, the hotel still provides the quality and comfort you'd expect from Marriott and I would return.

This place got the best location in Shanghai, mall and restaurants all you can ask for. I’ll stay here again when I come to Shanghai again.

excellent hotel

Great location, only a few minutes walking distance to Line 2 subway station, 15-20 minutes to Nanjing East Road and the Bund. The room and the bathroom were spacious and mostly clean but there was noticeable dust on the floor lamp shade and the TV cabinet. Overall. A great experience.

Location is great nearby to many malls and train station. Rooms was big, service was great. Pool was clean

Good location hotel with helpful staff and nice rooms

Very nice hotel that upheld the Mariott standards. The hotel and rooms are very clean. It is in a very good location, across from the New World shopping center with plenty of shops and food options. It s also connected to a Luckin coffee and McDonalds that we frequented a lot for that morning coffee and late night snack. It is also a very short walk to the Nanjing pedestrian road (west side). The swimming pool is also very nice with a big hot tub. Staff was friendly and helpful, especially a lady by the name of Grace Song. She took care of us during our 1st leg stay in Shanghai with setting up wheelchairs for my parents. She gave us her WeChat and we were able to personally get through to her to help with logistics for our 2nd leg stay after visiting other cities. When we check in, the wheelchairs were already reserved for us. She also helped us get approval for free breakfast due to having to wait for some of the rooms to be available. She also helped us track down and deliver some forgotten items that were shipped from our previous hotel. She even went as far as helping us with some local currency deposit into our WeChat pay when our international credit cards didn't go through!

The housekeeping staff for my room are excellent. They were very polite and very helpful. They kept my room very clean and well supplied. Thank you for your hard work!

First of all, hotel staff were superb from reception to cleaning service. Lots of places to eat some hidden in department stores. We checked out at least two social media raved about restaurants which were nearby (walkable) and they lived up to their hype! We also made use of the metro which is also nearby. In summary, would stay at this hotel again.
