Tai Kwun x Yiwooo Bamboo Crafting Workshop

• Bamboo is considered a highly sustainable resource due to its rapid growth rate, ability to regenerate after being harvested and 100% biodegradable. It is a gift from nature; every piece has its joints, spots and colour, making every piece of artwork unique. Sophisticated yet easy to be mastered. Participants will be able to learn basic bamboo-weaving techniques to create their bamboo trays without using any glue and can respect and appreciate nature, as this workshop allows them to handle it firsthand with love. There's no way participants won't walk away from this workshop feeling greener.

(A) Shikainami Basket Workshop

• Called “Shikainami” in Japanese, the name is said to have come from a folk song, which means, the sea is calm, and the waves are calm, and the world is peaceful and prosperous. Formed by a bamboo-weaving technique called Yotsume Ami, this cross pattern structure has each side weaved into each other without using any glue, symboling the intertwined waves. It is one of the most basic styles of bamboo crafts, suitable for all beginners. It can be used as a vase or as a ceramic dish carrier.

(B) Hexagonal Bamboo Tray Workshop

• This entry-level bamboo craft plate is woven into a slightly curved semicircle based on the hexagonal weaving technique. Utilising the high flexibility of bamboo, the edge of the plate is closed with a butterfly-shaped rattan knot. It has multiple uses, as it can be used as a basket or hamper to fill with fruits, canned foods, or grocery items. Rinse with clean water after use and let it dry casually. The plate can also be flipped upside down to become a lampshade to offer a beautiful yet soft, warm light.
