I made a reservation the day before and participated! The meeting time was 9 AM, so I arrived 15 minutes early, but, wait? It wasn't open. A fleeting sense of anxiety crossed my mind, but about 5 minutes before, a staff member arrived and guided us in. Phew. After being served masala milk tea and relaxing for a bit, we were told to choose 3 dishes to cook. The four participants, including us, discussed and made our choices. Once decided, we all went shopping at a nearby store. Mushrooms, potatoes, carrots, coriander, and so on. It was interesting to see Nepalese ingredients at a store where locals come to shop. For the cooking, tasks were efficiently divided, and we proceeded with cutting vegetables, stir-frying, and kneading momo dough from flour, all while listening to recipe explanations. After eating the first two completed dishes (a potato dish and a mushroom dish), it was finally time to make momos. We made the filling and wrapped it in handmade skins. This was quite difficult 😓. The man from Turkey, who works as a patissier, made them beautifully, which was impressive. The man from England, who had just completed a 14-day Manaslu trek, struggled as it was his first time. We also struggled but managed to wrap them all. We steamed them for about 15 minutes and ate them fresh. They were the most delicious momos I ate during my stay in Nepal ♪ We finished eating around 12:20 PM and dispersed as appropriate. The explanations and progression of the cooking were well-organized and enjoyable. However, starting slowly and ending slowly might be characteristic of the country, wouldn't you say? That's also a part of the Nepalese cultural experience. I recommend it to anyone who has time!
There was no pick-up service. We were able to choose from the menu, and since there were only two students, it was a very intimate setting, making it easy to ask questions. The chef was young, very efficient, and his explanations were easy to understand. The food was also delicious. Thank you very much.
Me encanta, lo disfruto. Ambos chefs son increíbles, saben lo que hacen, son muy profesionales y, sobre todo, muy amables. Los adoro. 😍 Gracias.
Nash and Vikram are so nice and polite. They are both great cooks and teachers. We enjoyed the class a lot and the food we helped cook turned out so good. The kitchen and the whole place were very clean. Keep up the good work! :) A warning is you should not have a big meal before the class cos the food portion will be big enough for the whole day!!!
The instructor was funny and patient, with lots of explanation that would make you understand more about the authentic Nepali cuisine. I was having lots of fun!!
I recently attended a cooking class and it was truly an exceptional experience! From the moment we arrived, Chef Bikram and Instructor Kamal made us feel welcome and excited to learn. Their expertise and passion for Nepali cuisine were evident at every step of the process. We started with making momos, where Chef Bikram guided us through the intricate folding techniques and shared helpful tips for perfecting the filling. It was a hands-on experience, and Chef Bikram’s friendly demeanor made it easy to follow along. After mastering the momos, we moved on to preparing dal bhat, one of Nepal’s most beloved traditional meals. Instructor Kamal was incredibly patient and thorough, teaching us how to balance the spices and create the perfect lentil soup and rice combination. The class was not only informative but also a lot of fun! Chef Bikram and Kamal were both enthusiastic and engaging, sharing stories about Nepali culture and cuisine along the way. By the end of the session, we felt like we had truly learned the art of Nepali cooking, and the delicious meals we prepared were a testament to their fantastic teaching. I highly recommend the Kathmandu Cooking Academy to anyone looking to immerse themselves in Nepali food culture. Chef Bikram and Instructor Kamal are incredibly talented, and their passion for cooking makes this experience unforgettable. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity!
Nishma was very friendly and helpful in teaching us. I especially enjoyed the conversations we had. The food was really good too. I love the tomato sauce made, the fried lentil was good and the momo was yum.
モモやチャタマリなどネパール料理を美味しく作ることができてよかった。とても良い経験になりました。日本に帰ったらチャレンジしてみたいです。
It was a fun experience! Definitely recommend to get this class to know more about select Nepali dishes and meet new friends. Nishma and Sajin were both engaging and very helpful. The kitchen is clean, well equipped, and had enough space for 7 of students. Their organizer is also responsive to queries and requests.
I had a wonderful time at the cooking school and was completely satisfied. The teacher was a young woman, not only skilled in cooking but also delightful in conversation, which made it a memorable experience in Kathmandu. Participants choose an appetizer, main dish, and dessert, then go shopping at a nearby market. This time we made momo, rolling the dough, filling, and steaming them ourselves. The momo we made tasted even better than the ones I had at a restaurant the day before. The teacher speaks Nepali, Hindi, and English, and even though I am not good at English, I was still able to fully enjoy the lesson. Recipes can be downloaded online, so there is no need to take detailed notes—you can simply focus on cooking. The school was easy to find with a sign outside. Just enter through the gate, pass through the building, and go up to the second floor. I look forward to seeing the continued success of the cooking school. Thank you very much.
