The boat was very clean and well kept, provided pizza, snacks and drinks too! Even if we didn't catch any squids, it was a fun experience. It was cut short a bit however, we came back to the pier 20 min before 11, and some of the fishing hooks were quite rusty.
In July of the new calendar (June of the lunar calendar), the probability of catching squid is still relatively high. Having said that, there was a typhoon just a few days before departure, and the squid fishing location was Tseung Kwan O, so I had to be mentally prepared not to catch much. I still remember the first time I went squid fishing in Sai Kung a long time ago, everyone could have a bucket of harvest; the second time I went, I couldn't even catch one, so catching them is not a given. This time, I was also mentally prepared for fishing in Tseung Kwan O, just in case the children would be unhappy if they didn't catch anything. In the end, luckily, I caught a few, and they were not small, so it was a happy experience of catching squid. Speaking of which, the itinerary and service this time were good. We were punctual for roll call at the pier and then boarded the boat. The boat was clean, and the boatmen and staff were very nice. This experience included snacks and drinks (not enough for a full meal, you'll be hungry when you get home after getting off the boat). There were pizza, potato chips, individually packaged biscuits, marshmallows, boxed drinks, and bottled water. On the day of departure, there was another low-pressure system forming, so the beautiful sunset scenery along the way was breathtaking, needless to say. In just half an hour, the vibrant red mixed with salted egg yolk, with different cloud formations beside it, red and blue alternating into purple haze, then turning to pitch black, added a mysterious and intoxicating color to the Victoria Harbour scenery. 😌 Upon arriving at Tseung Kwan O, everyone started fishing for squid. After fishing until about 10 PM, the boatman had already processed the caught squid. All the squid were cut into three pieces and blanched, allowing all participants to taste them together, so even if you didn't catch any, you still had something to eat. The boatman praised our boat for being hardworking, and the plate of blanched squid was huge! There was one person on the boat who was very lucky and caught more than a dozen throughout the trip, while those around her couldn't catch any. See how amazing she is! After eating the few we caught, the boatman let us choose whether to take them home ourselves or leave them on the boat for him to process... The one I caught before 10 PM (the squid in the picture) became a souvenir and came home with me. 😄 While anchored in Tseung Kwan O, there were two or three big waves that made the boat rock a lot. Adults need to keep a close eye on the safety of accompanying children! Fortunately, there were only two or three big waves all night, otherwise, I don't know if seasickness would have accompanied us off the boat. 😅 At 10:30, the boat sailed back to Central Pier 9. It was a wonderful night! 🤩
The two uncles provided excellent service, and the boat was new, clean, and hygienic. The food quality was quite high. I suggest that before starting to fish for squid, they should "slowly" and clearly explain the fishing method, preferably with a live demonstration, before distributing the fishing gear. This would increase the success rate and avoid confusion. There is a step on the boat when boarding and disembarking, which is very dangerous! I fell when getting off the boat (in the dark), which was very embarrassing! I recommend putting fluorescent tape on it and giving verbal reminders regularly, as this is most dangerous for the elderly, pregnant individuals, and children! However, the boat trip + squid fishing was really enjoyable and is a major feature of Hong Kong that should be well preserved. I didn't expect there to be squid fishing in Tseung Kwan O; it's more convenient, cleaner, and quieter than Sai Kung. I'll go again next year!
It was a very enjoyable activity. The boat owner was very generous, providing each person with a pizza and a drink. There were many squid, almost everyone caught one. The captain was very patient in teaching us how to fish and even cooked them for us to taste on the spot. The Victoria Harbour scenery was beautiful, and there was air conditioning on the boat, making it very comfortable.
If you wait at the designated pier, someone holding a vertically-oriented pizza and a Klook logo will arrive. You'll receive a number ticket, follow the guide, and board the boat. It takes about 40-50 minutes to reach the fishing spot. The night view of Hong Kong at sunset alone makes it worth it. Once you arrive at the fishing spot, you'll fish for about 2 hours. In the beginning, not many squid gather, so don't exert yourself too much. After 20-30 minutes, you can start catching squid and fish that are attracted to the lights. Surprisingly, many fish are also caught. The captain and assistant can communicate in Cantonese and a little Chinese, but it's not a big problem if you don't know Cantonese. If the captain or assistant shouts loudly in Cantonese, stop what you're doing and focus on where the sound is coming from to understand the situation. Hear a loud shout? Someone caught a squid! Another loud shout? The squid is cooked, let's eat! It's like that. A word of caution: if you hear the captain shouting loudly while the boat is moving, it's a danger signal due to waves. It's safest to just sit down while the boat is moving. You'll return around 11 PM. Aside from the fatigue of the late hour, there's no time to be bored. If you don't actively catch squid, you'll have to fill up on pizza, bread, and drinks. Children love it, and some adults suffer from seasickness during this program. Personally, it's great!
The captain was kind and courteous, taking great care of us and teaching us appropriate techniques. We had a very rewarding and excellent experience! They also prepared fresh pizza, food, drinks, and water, and even cooked the squid we caught for us to share, which was incredibly delicious!
This price for 4 hours is excellent value, although due to my personal lack of skill, I couldn't catch any squid 🦑. I'll just treat it as a boat trip to see the beautiful night view of the bridge in Tseung Kwan O. Many people participated, which was great, and it didn't rain ☔️.
Great activity! The Klook staff member called out names at the pier, and then we boarded the boat with the boatman to go squid fishing. There were 40 people on the boat, and we fished for about 2 hours. We didn't catch much, but it was a lot of fun!
nice and relaxing trip
