Very fun sightseeing activity, though sightings are more likely to be dolphins than whales. Transfers are highly recommended (if not mandatory) unless you’re driving, as the location isn’t very accessible. There’s a 15 to 30 minute educational briefing on commonly seen whale and dolphin species at their visitor area before being driven to the dock. The boat is clean and well-maintained. I strongly recommend queuing early once you reach the dock to access the boat’s second floor, which offers clearer views and is less crowded (limited to 10 people). Time spent at sea depends on conditions and may be around 1 hour or less, which is understandable. Highly recommended!
I booked a pick-up service, and the driver arrived at the hotel downstairs in advance. Upon arrival, he guided us to collect our boat tickets and then to a small classroom for a briefing. After the briefing, we set off. On the boat, the guide continuously provided information and taught everyone methods to alleviate seasickness. Seeing the dolphins was truly breathtaking; I was amazed by the wonders of nature. The dolphins swimming around the boat were incredibly impressive. The entire experience, from boarding to disembarking, was about 1.5 hours and well worth it.
The interpreters from the Kuroshio Ocean Education Foundation are very professional and experienced. Before heading out to sea, they provide an indoor explanation of the whales and dolphins that might be encountered. Less than 10 minutes after leaving the harbor, a whole pod of dolphins was spotted. The boat trip lasted about 2 hours, and we saw two types of dolphins and flying fish.
Excellent! The driver was punctual for pickup and drop-off, and the car was very spacious. I asked to be dropped off at the train station at the end, and they took me there precisely, even proactively recommending good places to eat. As for the whale watching tour guide, she was incredibly patient, and the staff were also wonderful, leading us to find the whales. The sea was also beautiful. Highly, highly recommended!

The weather was great for the afternoon flight on September 11, 2025, and the sea conditions were excellent. We saw three types of dolphins swimming freely in the ocean. It was a truly therapeutic experience.
I absolutely loved this experience! After boarding, the captain headed north to find dolphin pods. The waves were big but the ride was very stable, and it was incredibly romantic to see so many spinner dolphins at sunset. We were so lucky and got really close. I'll definitely come again if I have the chance! ✨
The pickup was very convenient and so we didn't have to worry about the transport. There was a safety briefing before the tour and the guide was very knowledgeable. We felt very safe and the boat was in good condition. We managed to see a pod of dolphins and even babies because we're in season but no whales because of typhoons a couple weeks back. The sea was quite choppy though so some of us got a bit seasick but there were plastic bags provided everywhere on the boat. Definitely recommended to take motion sickness medication before the journey but it was a wonderful experience overall! Very happy and satisfied 👍🏻
The sea was incredibly beautiful, and we saw many dolphins, but unfortunately no whales. Next time I come to Hualien, I'd love to go out to sea again.
This was my first time participating in a whale watching tour in Hualien. Micky, a guide from the Kuroshio Ocean Education Foundation, led us on this journey, sharing many stories about dolphins and Hualien, helping us understand more about local life. The weather was partly cloudy with a gentle sea breeze. We sailed north with the wind in search of dolphins, and after nearly an hour of cruising, we finally spotted spinner dolphins near the mouth of the Liwu River. What a joyful moment! The best spot on the boat is the bow deck on the first floor, where you can enjoy the thrill of riding the waves and be closest to the sea, which is also great for watching whales and dolphins.
