🌟 The Richmond & Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary Half Day Tour was a nice mix of history and wildlife. Richmond is small and easy to walk around—pleasant but nothing too big. The real highlight was Bonorong. If you time your visit with their daily tour, it’s absolutely worth it: the guides share deep knowledge and give you close interactions with wombats, kangaroos, and Tasmanian devils. That experience made the day feel truly special.
They said we could play for 4 hours, but including travel time, it was actually 4 hours in total, which differed from what customer service told me. The driver uncle was very kind and introduced attractions along the way. My English isn't great, and I missed my hotel, so he went out of his way to drive me back, which I really appreciate! The zoo was fantastic; I saw many small animals, but unfortunately, the time was too short. I recommend self-driving for everyone~
It was a lovely experience. The transfer was comfortable, and our guide was polite and pleasant. Wish we had more time at the sanctuary.
The tour was well organized and informative. Feeding the kangaroos, and meeting the Tasmanian Devil and the Echidna were highlights of the tour.
A simple half-day tour, including the picturesque town of Richmond and a zoo where you can see Tasmanian devils and personally feed kangaroos, is very leisurely and comfortable.
Vale la pena el viaje de medio día desde Hobart. El santuario fue definitivamente un punto culminante al ver a los wombats, los demonios de Tasmania y los equidnas en particular.
It's a bit boring. Both the town and the zoo are quite ordinary. You'd be better off just strolling around the city.
The trip is nice and Borong Wildlife Sanctuary is a meaningful place.
This tour includes about one hour each in Richmond and Bonorong. I chose the half-day option because I didn’t rent a car and was tired, but overall the price felt disappointing. The guide drives the bus and provides brief commentary. Richmond is very small, and one hour of free time is enough to see the town. At Bonorong, you join a guided tour run by the zoo at a fixed time. However, many general visitors were already gathered to hear the commentary, which made it difficult to listen comfortably. Despite this, meeting rescued animals—many orphaned by roadkill or injured—and feeding kangaroos was a meaningful experience. This truly sets Bonorong apart from typical zoos in Sydney and nearby areas. Aside from this highlight, the overall value feels limited. Even including admission and transport, the price (AUD 125) feels high. If possible, visiting independently by car or choosing a full-day tour to Maria Island may offer better value.
I was able to see a Tasmanian Devil. The bus driver guided us throughout, so I never got bored. I had no trouble finding the meeting point, and there were no issues with the tour overall.
