The JR Kansai Wide Area Pass for five days is very convenient, allowing you to take the Shinkansen from Osaka to Okayama. It's even more cost-effective when combined with local sightseeing passes. This time, I chose discounts for three facilities in Tottori. The Sand Dune Museum is a must-visit attraction, and the scenery along the Uradome Coast by boat is beautiful (though it was cloudy that day, so the sea color wasn't as vibrant). For my last stop, I dined at Kan-ichi in Kami Town, and the food was surprisingly delicious, with reasonable prices and a great atmosphere. Even on weekdays, it's popular, so you might have to queue for a bit.
We hired a taxi for three hours for 6,000 yen. The Uradome Coast sightseeing boat (large boat) had an 800 yen surcharge per person. Due to rough seas that day, we couldn't take the small boat. The Sand Museum offered free admission, and the exhibits were beautiful. We took the chairlift, but it turned out the museum was within walking distance to the Observation Hill. We had thought we'd take it from the Sand Dune Center. Walking the sand dunes is free. Reaching the highest point and returning was easier than I expected, taking less than 45 minutes (including enjoying the view from the top of the dune). The sand was very fine and firm; you wouldn't sink into soft spots, and sand didn't get into our shoes during normal walking. We didn't even need to constantly brush sand off when sitting. It was an easy and pleasant experience. At the Sand Dune Center, the 'Mousha' shrimp sashimi, costing over a thousand yen, included three 'Mousha' shrimp and three sweet shrimp – it was delicious and good value. Finally, we spent over 6,000 yen on souvenirs at the Sand Dune Center using three 1,000 yen bills. Today, excluding the round-trip Osaka transportation and Tottori travel pass, the three of us spent 20,000 yen on food, activities, and shopping! (It turns out the JR Pass's free Kirin Bus only operates on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.) So, we bought a special bus ticket for foreign tourists at Osaka OCAT for 1,000 yen to Tottori, and then four days later, a 2,000 yen ticket from Matsue back to Osaka. We also bought a three-day Matsue-Tottori JR Pass, which was a better deal! We hired a taxi for three hours for 6,000 yen. I used it for the Sand Museum and Uradome boat tickets. I didn't know where to use the remaining facility because the other locations were quite far. If I were to recommend, I think choosing the Uradome boat, Sand Museum, and Sakyu Kaikan is the best.
This coupon offers incredible value for money. If you need it, you should definitely buy it.
Buying tickets on Klook is super convenient. You don't have to queue on-site; you can just scan and use them directly. It's very convenient to use in Tottori, and there are many discounts too.
使い方は簡単です。QRコードを見せるだけで、処理方法を理解してくれます。浦富海岸の遊覧船ツアーに参加し、砂の美術館に行き、たくみ割烹で夕食を食べました。とてもお得でした!
This time, I purchased the Kansai Wide Area Pass and the Tottori Pass combination. I took the Super Hakuto train from Osaka to Tottori, and used the Tottori Pass to enjoy a free visit to the Sand Museum. Every sand sculpture in the museum is a masterpiece, making it well worth a visit.
