It was a very clean, quiet, charming property with wonderful outdoor seating next to the building with the hotel rooms. Convenient location to city sites, multiple restaurants and grocery stores are nearby. Onsite bar and restaurant. The staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating (When we asked whether we could drink tap water (yes), they also provided us with a water pitcher full of water and ice on account of the hot weather. Only issue is we stayed during a summer heat wave and the fans provided weren’t enough to cool off the room.

Room was lovely and clean, in fact it looked like it had been completely refurnished. Tea making facilities. Staff extreme helpful and friendly. The fact that you can park your car in the yard belonging to the Watergate is a big plus in York. Made a few visits and although basic it is perfect and so central to the shops and historic sights.

I loved the charm and character of this inn. They provided toiletries and towels. There was a kettle in the room with some tea bags and instant coffee, which I really appreciated. Comfy bed. Will definitely consider staying there again next time I am in York.

I would not stay here again. Sheets were torn, pillows flat, absolutely no circulation. Even a small fan would have made a diffrrece

Great city centre base. Friendly helpful staff, breakfast and dinner great portions and well cooked. First class chef.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a little small as nowhere to put clothes and the tv did not work No plug for the sink.Ok for one night Breakfast was good.I did not come by car or use the bar.If I had bee staying for more than one night may have gone elsewhere. Not alot of ventilation.Had to openthw window on arrival. If it had been earlier in.the week when temperatures around 32c would have been unbearable

The hotel was in a very convenient location for visiting the Shambles and city core. We found the room itself to be a bit rough in terms of amenities. The stall shower was on the small side for me, but the hot water came quickly and didn’t run out. Our biggest complaint was that the TV signal was not stable (kept glitching out) and the room never really cooled down in the evening (no A/C). Granted, we were there during a record heat wave. The full English breakfast was large and well prepared.

Location was great for our visit, very central, 5 minutes walk to Jorvik, The Shambles, Clifford Tower etc. Decided to eat at the Inn’s restaurant on the first night (a Monday) & ordered basic pizzas (Margarita / Hawaiian). After around a 50 minute wait (with no staff interaction), we were advised they had run out of pineapple! Took around an hour & 10 mins in total to receive our food (which was not good considering we had 3 hungry children with us). Our room was at the front with nice views along the street, but the windows had single glazing, so it was noisy from the street below. There was also a noisy fan in the room, which upon investigation had been packed with paper / cardboard, presumably to reduce the noise, but think this could have been a fire hazard, so we turned it off. Nice place, but it needs a little attention, and the wait for food was excessive.

Staff were great and good location.

Nice room clean and tidy, staff helpful great location.
