We're proud to present a brand new series featuring our co-founders Ethan Lin and Eric Gnock Fah, where they share never-before-told stories of their journey of founding Klook! Join us on a trip down memory lane to recount the lightbulb moment that sparked the birth of Klook, navigating the highs and lows of building a travel company and their epic adventure over the past decade!
In the first episode of our new content series, Ethan and Eric share about that one fateful day in Nepal, where a life-and-death encounter spurred them to build a travel company. From developing the financial model to putting their skin in the game, they turned an idea into a reality.
Where it All Began
Like many industry leaders, Klook began with humble beginnings where Ethan and Eric rolled up their sleeves to design a webpage using PowerPoint, knocked on the doors of merchant partners, and even curated their own experience when facing rejection from larger merchants. Starting a business is a true test of passion, grit and in this case, friendship.
The Early Days
Coming from the banking industry, most would assume that Ethan and Eric had an advantage when it came to raising funds. But that’s far from the truth.
In the third episode of our content series, they open up about the rejections they faced from potential investors. There were doubts about their background in banking, lack of experience in the travel space as well as an uncertainty that Asian founders could build a global travel platform.
The Tipping Point
The travel industry has experienced continuous disruption over the last few years. Today, it's on the brink of a revolution. Ethan and Eric discuss three key trends that will shape the travel industry in the next decade - from AI to social media and social responsibility.
Today; The Next Decade & Beyond
In the final episode, Ethan and Eric get personal - opening up about their roots, the formative influence of their mothers, and reflections on Klook turning 10.
