The hotel is tucked away off the street a stones throw from the Minster giving great close access to the sights of York. Breakfast was very tasty, served in the restaurant and the room although small was full of Georgian character. Bed was very comfortable, usual coffees and teas available and staff friendly and helpful (extra milk, free water) - definitely going again.

Lovely time in this hotel, clean room, bathroom were nice with good water pressure, Rose and the manger were very helpful. Rose took good care of my wife and I, got us a cab, helped out with directions, restaurant had really good food. We enjoyed our stay, other than it was hotter than Hades in our room. Why hotel like this don’t invest in AC mini splits is beyond me. Every shop in York seem like that AC except for the hotels.

Excellent little place to stay. My one criticism and this is with a mountain of praise since its such a good location, price and accommodation, was that the water bottle they have in the room looks to have been opened and refilled. Would probably be good to have a fresh bottle but thats it. Take advantage of the free breakfast! Its good food and id dine in there again.

Absolute gem of a hotel/restaurant for those looking for a unique stay in York. We were there during an unusually warm day; the staff went above and beyond to try to make things comfortable for us. We had an evening nightcap and a wonderful breakfast the next morning in the hotel restaurant. It is located in the heart of all the great things York has to offer. Things to note: there are stairs to navigate and the location is in the heart of vibrant city scene. It's perfect for the solo traveler or a couple looking for a fun get away.

Lovely little hotel right in the centre of York amongst shops, restaurants, bars and just around the corner from York Minster. It’s situated in an excellent position to see the city. It’s only a small lodge hotel so it doesn’t have a wealth of amenities but it’s very clean, somewhat romantic as you have lovely copper baths in the room and the style of the property is quite old. The room we stayed in, which was at the top had the old ceiling beams and a cute small window but a larger one too. There were little inviting details in our room, such as two cups and saucers, a glass jar of teas, coffees, chocolate and milk sachets. Also, small individual packs of biscuits and a kettle. Also, the staff switched on a table top fan which we were very thankful for as we stayed in one of the hottest periods in June 2026. Although, the room was quite small we had a lovely, comfortable, king sized bed and the copper bath was on the one side of the bed ( a bit of a gap in between) but near the window and there was a small table that had small bottles of Molton Brown shower gel and bubble bath as well as a nice bar of soap. We also, had a toilet and small sink too in a separate cut-off en-suite, toilet room, so you could put your toilet bag in that space too. Finally, there’s plenty of cupboard space and a little wardrobe to put your clothes away and we found two white, towelling robes hanging up in the wardrobe as an added extra which was nice too. Lovely hotel in all & very friendly staff.
