About the event

Where Art Meets Technology: TK Chan’s “Where the Birds AR” Exhibition Brings Migratory Birds to Life with AR Innovation

What happens when traditional ink art meets cutting-edge technology? Renowned Hong Kong ink artist TK Chan (Chan Tsz Kwan) is set to unveil her latest exhibition, “Where the Birds AR – TK Chan Ink Art Exhibition”, from March 22 to 31 at Landmark South in Wong Chuk Hang. This exhibition is not just a visual feast but a profound dialogue between art and technology. Through augmented reality (AR), TK Chan invites audiences into a vibrant ink art world where migratory birds come to life, raising awareness about wetland conservation.

AR Technology Brings Ink Art to Life

The highlight of “Where the Birds AR” is its innovative AR interactive experience. Visitors can download a dedicated mobile app to witness ink-painted birds fluttering off the canvas and even interact with birds they have colored themselves. TK Chan has developed Hong Kong’s first AR coloring app themed around ink art, allowing visitors to color ink-style bird illustrations and bring them to life in 3D through their smartphones. This immersive experience makes art accessible and showcases the limitless possibilities of combining technology with traditional art forms.

Love and Family: The Heartwarming Stories of Migratory Birds

Beyond technological innovation, the exhibition’s core theme revolves around “love and family.” With delicate brushstrokes and vibrant colors, TK Chan depicts pairs and families of migratory birds, showcasing their warm and intimate relationships. These works not only convey the love and support shared among families, partners, and friends but also remind viewers that, no matter how busy life gets, love remains the most important part of our lives. Through these heartwarming images, TK hopes to draw attention to endangered migratory birds and promote the idea of family and love as a means to nurture future generations and preserve precious life.

A Call for Wetland Conservation Through Art

As a crucial stopover along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, Hong Kong welcomes over 550 species of migratory birds each year. However, wetlands and bird ecosystems are often overlooked. To create this series of bird-themed works, TK Chan visited the Hong Kong Wetland Park multiple times, observing the habitats and migration patterns of these birds. She also consulted with experts from the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society to gain a deeper understanding of bird behavior. Translating these observations into her brushstrokes, TK Chan captures the lively movements of birds in ink, hoping to raise public awareness about the importance of wetland conservation.

Interactive Experiences: Bringing Art into Everyday Life

The exhibition is not just a visual treat but also an interactive experience. In addition to the AR coloring app, the exhibition features interactive games and AR-guided tours, allowing visitors to learn about birds in a fun and engaging way. TK Chan aims to bring art into everyday life through these interactive elements, enabling more people to appreciate the charm of ink art.
