Lost & Collected - Maps & Things of Hong Kong|Exhibition Introduction
Rediscovering Hong Kong: A Heartfelt Journey Through 60 Years of Change This Christmas and New Year

In this ever-changing city, Hong Kong's landscape evolves every day. "Lost & Collected - Maps & Things of Hong Kong" will take you on a journey through time, showcasing a series of precious old maps and street maps, allowing everyone to witness the changes in Hong Kong's geography, commerce, and lifestyle over the past sixty years.
During the Christmas and New Year period, the Hong Kong history and design collectibles group MODERNISM collaborates with the local digital printing studio - artellex. Together, they will explore the past of this city through old maps combined with the latest digital printing technology, helping us understand our roots.
"Each map acts as a window, allowing us to glimpse the Hong Kong of the past. From rural areas evolving into satellite cities, to the reclamation of land in the small bay becoming residential areas; from bustling street markets to thriving commercial districts, these maps record countless personal lives and stories. As time passes, the old alleys and buildings gradually fade away, leaving only memories and images. Visitors will not only appreciate these valuable historical materials but also feel the emotional resonance brought by time, telling a story that belongs to every Hong Konger—a journey of growth alongside the city."
"Lost & Collected - Maps & Things of Hong Kong" includes over 50 printed maps and street maps dating back to the 1950s, as well as collections of property sale and rental contracts. Among them is a 1958 "Map of Hong Kong," which will be digitally printed by artellex using the latest technology, presenting the map in a size of over 20 feet long, allowing everyone to closely examine the geography and planning from 65 years ago, from Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan. Additionally, there is some 1958-1959 sale agreement, witnessing that a stone house could be purchased for just over two thousand dollars at that time; these collectibles are not only records of geography but also marks of Hong Kong's development.
