Wings of Sky Star Lotus | Exhibition Introduction

Transit in space-time: Walk and immerse within a trail of star lotuses up in the sky bird-clouds, poetic images and light… Explore cosmic colours and meanings … knitted together in the dream catchers of the dawn of awakening…

<Wings of Sky *Star Lotus> unveils the poetic symbolism of lotus spreading wings to reach upwards to the starry sky, exploring the budding of self-realization, love and growing up, the trials of life, sufferings experienced in the world and the journey towards the revelation of spiritual love, care and peace. Integral to this journey is the inner discovery of starry interconnection of all things in the universe.

The inspirations behind the poetics of lotus at different stages of flight, imaginary birds and floating clouds come from ancient mythologies, modern stargazing and observations of flight aerodynamics. Recalling Dunhuang grottoes and carvings, some paintings in the exhibition are textural or sculptural in nature. Other paintings are realized from the undulations of spaces and the breathing body.

The painting installation come into being in triangular sculptural form and internalized star mapping. Poetic movement and dance create different points and lines of walking and flight, revealing the experience of the round spherical sky and the angled positions of the land as well as the vastness of the universe. Special events and live performance to happen along the trail of starry connections.

The artist comes from a family, with different religions and beliefs, and her childhood experience of going to Buddhist temple and of painting lotus clouds referencing Dunhuang wall paintings for the monk is one source of inspiration. The special events taking place during Christmas time and the winter solistice, and in the vicinity of the Hong Kong Park - waterlily pond and aviary forest of birds - also explore the connection between art, dance, nature, ecology and spirituality.
