Hiroshi SHINNO (b. 1979), born in Kyoto and a graduate of The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, finds his creative sanctuary amidst the richness of nature, surrounded by diverse forms of life. His artistic inspiration revolves around the natural world and the enigmatic ways in which organisms shape their bodies and interact with the natural order. This exhibition, titled "The Theater of Life - 34°44' E 136°01'", poses the question, "How do these beings perceive the world and sustain themselves?" It suggests that the interdependence of life forms, as they collectively experience existence, is analogous to witnessing a theatrical performance.
The artist meticulously collects natural materials, which he then casts into specimens. Through replication and reconstruction, these materials are transformed into "living things" entities distinct from their original forms, revealing the beauty inherent in life's postures. SHINNO's "living things" creations engage in a dialogue with nature, spanning from the macrocosmic to the microscopic. They illustrate the fundamental elements of life, where single cells aggregate to form multicellular structures, evolving into complex life forms.
Employing a signature technique akin to weaving, SHINNO dismantles the closed structures of sculpture to create unique spatial forms and concepts. His works transcend the specificity of objects, achieving balance through points, lines, and surfaces. Vividly intertwined flower buds and delicate leaf shoots evoke a subconscious garden resonating with the contemporary environment. One gaze upward reveals shimmering reflections akin to the radiant expanse of a celestial galaxy.
Hiroshi SHINNO's creations embody memories that elude human creation, endowing them with a peculiar vitality. The exhibition will hold from October 12, 2024 (Sat.) to November 9, 2024 (Sat.), visit AKI Gallery and experience the "performance" presented by these ephemeral yet beautiful flashes of life.
