About the event

Austrian conductor Manfred Honeck returns to the HK Phil with a unique Dvořák diptych. Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony, his last before emigrating to the US, is an exuberant, lyrical masterpiece filled with his beloved Bohemian folk sonority. Honeck opens the concert with his orchestral fantasy on Dvořák’s opera Rusalka, written in collaboration with Tomáš Ille. Between these two works, Franco-Belgian star cellist Camille Thomas brings us a contemporary cello concerto she premiered: Fazıl Say’s Never Give Up, described by the composer as an “outcry for freedom and peace”.
