About the event

Not the Best, Not the Worst (Mamaday Lah) 麻麻地啦

Young Soy Gallery is proud to present, “Not the Best, Not the Worst” (Mamaday Lah), a solo exhibition featuring the works of OMACKE.

Hailing from Toronto, OMACKE is known for his captivating portraits that seamlessly blend graffiti and painting. Beginning his artistic journey two decades ago by tagging the urban landscapes of Canada, his artistic practice has evolved into a distinctive style characterised by bold faces in vibrant colours.

Through the body of works presented at "Not the Best, Not the Worst” (Mamaday Lah), OMACKE captures the broader human condition, highlighting the nuanced balance between the ‘best’ and the ‘worst’. Much like the Cantonese phrase, “Mamaday Lah”, the artist, through his diverse body of works, explores the human essence of constantly being in flux, and not pinpointing oneself on either side of the spectrum of being ‘best’ or the ‘worst’.

Seek comfort in the equilibrium, find peace in the balance, and embrace the happy chaos that comes along by being “Mamaday” with OMACKE.

About the organizer

Young Soy is an art gallery dedicated to the everlasting quest of cultivating and celebrating radical cultural influences.

Under the gallery’s representation lives a diverse cohort of artists forming not only different styles, but also different backgrounds and ideologies. This enables the gallery to push the envelope, challenge its audience and continuously expose it to a range of concepts. Young Soy prides itself on representing these artists under the belief that these artists have the potential to claim a position in art history, and potentially even history itself.

The gallery also follows a code of supreme inclusion, meaning they encourage the masses to participate in the dialogue surrounding the artists, and artwork alike. Through the exhibition of such artists, and inclusion of the masses, the gallery remains steadfast in their delirious hopes of making the world a better, more interesting place to live.
